Hundreds of migrant families arrive at remote border crossings, overwhelming U.S. agents
https://www.washingtonpost.com

"Antelope Wells is the site of one of about three dozen Border Patrol "forward operating bases" in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — bare-bones facilities designed to increase enforcement in remote areas. About four agents are assigned to Antelope Wells and they sleep at the base on eight-day shifts to avoid having to drive home every day.

Migrants have told agents that they took commercial buses from Guatemala to New Mexico in four or five days straight, a sharp contrast to the traditional route that can take 25 to 30 days to reach the U.S. border and includes rest stops at "stash houses" along the way, McAleenan said.

It's unclear why Guatemalans are choosing such a remote spot, but McAleenan said it may be less expensive for smugglers to pay other criminal organizations fees to pass through. The U.S. is working with Mexico to determine the reasons behind it, hoping to redirect traffic to the nearest cities, El Paso and Nogales, Arizona."

They are now targeting unmanned crossing stations..... I am wondering, is it time for us to invest in land in Guatemala because it looks like that country will soon be up for grabs and very sparsely populated.

I don't wish to be cynical , but "commercial buses"...
No one is checking their papers (passports and other ID)...
Plus... They seem to have enough money to get here the illegal way (coyotes and gangs don't exactly give discounts or group deals)...
I v**e wall...
But would love it if someone came up with a better idea...

If you look real close at the border security of many nations, you will see that the walls are not stand alone barriers, they are not unmanned or without 21st century technology. As formidable as a good wall is in preventing breaches, countries have installed military detection technology such as motion sensors, infrared sensors, laser intrusion sensors, pressure sensors, radar, light detection and ranging (LIDAR), high resolution video cameras with night vision capability, and unmanned drones. Some countries get really serious and lay in mine fields and trip wired booby traps.

Some stretches of national borders do not need a physical wall, the terrain itself is a very effective deterrent, both in the approaches to the border and the along the border itself. These can be easily patrolled by aerial drones or helicopters if the need arises.

In case you didn't know this, on recommendation from president Trump and DHS, Customs and Border Protection is moving ahead with designs for a technological and physical barrier. The overall CBP funding, as drafted in the House Homeland Security appropriations bill, includes $1.6 billion for the physical wall, plus $131 million for new border technology, $106 million for new aircraft and sensors and $100 million for an additional 500 border patrol agents.

That might be a good start. As for Guatemala maybe we should seize that country. We send our guys in there SWAT the gangs raise the f**g and if anybody declares I'm the leader of this country, handcuffed him throw them in jail . Throw the macaroni and cheese through the bars. We could turn that country into a garden to help feed our country with all these all i*****l a***ns coming over the Border. But we're going to need people to run these Farms. So we load the Guatemalans on buses and send them back out of Guatemala to run the Farms. I love it when a plan comes together.

I'm with Pennylynn...
Should color code for meaning...

I think (at the risk of being labelled r****t) that Guatemalans running the farms is what got this whole mess started in the first place...

Disclaimer: I have very little knowledge concerning the history of Guatemala or its people...

If your not born in TX or have lived here a long time, it's hard to tell if someone is kidding or not. It's a mix of cowboys, roughnecks, Hispanics, b****s, city slickers, saints, and sinners, where telling tall tales or lying is an art form. But once you understand it you begin to love it. It hones your BS detector and is often a form of entertainment and it causes Yankees to return back home or move to our big cities where they feel more at home and safer. That's the best way, I know how to explain it. He was kidding and being humorous, with a pinch of seriousness.

I am as serious as a heart attack.

I have never been mislead in my life. Sometimes it is hard to understand a person's reasoning for the stupid things they do or say.

For example the Dim-O-Crats raise hell when it comes to spending a few billion dollars to protect our sovereign borders from an enemy.

Yet these same Dim-O-Crats raise hell when the President intends to bring home our troops from protecting a foreign country's sovereignty that will save the American taxpayers multiple billions of dollars.

These same troops need to be protecting American sovereignty along our own borders until a wall can be erected.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AMERICA

AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

A better idea. The Browning .50 caliber machine gun has been around for a long time. A P-51 had 6 of them. There were one on each door of our Huey helicopters, on top of our tanks and armor personal carriers. Military armories have row after row of them just setting there waiting for duty. You take those guns along with some sand bags stringing them along the border making sure all have active k**l zones. Take troops from New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona who know just how much crime and welfare these i******s can steal and man those gun with orders of shoot to k**l. After a week the border would be safer and criminal free. California is not on the list because no Liberal gives back to his nation, only take and no one in California has been in the military since the draft and then it was only long enough to show them to be flaming homosexuals, cowards, or probably both.

I pray that this post is an attempt at humor...
I would never condone shooting children , women , the elderly , true refugees , or individuals who have been mislead...

Not to mention the (almost certain) loss of life from collateral damage... (shudder )

I must also disagree with your comments towards California... True , the state has enacted numerous laws and policies that I (personally) disagree with...But there are of course brave, selfless individuals who serve fearlessly on behalf of the American people...God bless them..

I assume from your post that you are a veteran and I thank you for your service... God bless you as well...
