Belt of Orion

"A Look to the Heavens"

“Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka, are the bright bluish stars from east to west (lower right to upper left) along the diagonal in this gorgeous cosmic vista. Otherwise known as the Belt of Orion, these three blue supergiant stars are hotter and much more massive than the Sun. They lie about 1,500 light-years away, born of Orion's well-studied interstellar clouds.

In fact, clouds of gas and dust adrift in this region have intriguing and some surprisingly familiar shapes, including the dark Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula near Alnitak at the lower right. The famous Orion Nebula itself is off the right edge of this colorful star field. The well-framed, wide-field telescopic image spans about 4 degrees on the sky.”

Sorry for the delay, Pafret, was tied up with something ...

I was just going to suggest an app called “sky guide” - not sure if it’s applicable to your device, I imagine it would be. The amount of information they provide is incredible. You can locate meteor showers, comets, constellations, individual stars... you name it, best of all, it’s free!

I will check into that but basically the smart phone is wasted on me. The only reason I have it is because my family all send texts instead of conversing and I was out of the loop. I stick to plain old telephone service (POTS). I do find the calculator and cameras useful but almost everything else is a damned nuisance.

Glad you mentioned using the camera aspect... that’s basically how the app works. Point the camera in any direction, doesn’t matter if you’re indoors or not, it projects through walls, you can look above or below the horizon. I was blown away by it, I use it just about every day. Hope you find it useful.

Searched for that app and it isn't one of the offerings on my phone. I will get my daughter-in-law to find out if I can download it from somewhere else. I have tech savvy sons but it is the daughter who is the phone guru.
