Very good point~~Curious as to why you believe it should be “fixed”..??

Thank you for asking. The short answer is, that I am a state’s rights person. Working class stiff hit the nail on the head, perhaps my belief can be further explained/understood in my response to him.

Here's my take:

With the popular election of Senators there is no longer a brake in the Constitution that can halt a runaway democracy. IOWs, if enough people rally around an idea or policy and elect representatives to reflect their views then there is very little that can stop it.

I agree. A popular election (IOW’s, a direct democracy) is precisely what allowed for a break (I know you didn’t misspell brake, just having fun with words) in the constitution, providing an opportunity for a runaway democracy. (I like your terminology) Providing for both houses to be elected via direct democracy. It was an undercurrent of the push for the 17th amendment by the progressives of the era. As we discussed before, the federal government, and each individual state, is constitutionally mandated to have a republican form of government. The constitution originally allowed for only the House of Representatives to be elected via direct democracy (majority rules). The same as it is today. However, as part of the checks and balances, the Framers mandated that the Senate be elected by state legislators, because, it gives state governments a direct voice in the federal government and budgeting process, something people that share my thoughts believe reflect the desire of the Framers for states to have a dynamic role in Washington. IOW’s the people’s representatives, not much different from the electoral college choosing the president. (Republican form of government) By ratifying the 17th, it pulled us further away from what the Framers laid out for us, and more towards a runaway democracy, not what the Framers wanted. Admittedly, the process prior to the 17th wasn’t without its faults, with some states of the time, after long debates, unable to come to an agreement on whom to be elected, and ending up deadlocked, and going unrepresented in the Congress. Also the rampant corruption of the state legislators at the time being the biggest motivator behind the push for the amendment. IMHO, the situation could have been handled differently. Such as limiting financial donations to legislators, to alleviate corruption, among other things. Perhaps the Framers were naive to think the people would vote in candidates of the highest ethical and moral standards. All this without mentioning the fact that the Congress at the time was a Democrat majority.... doh!! (I couldn’t resist )

The Critic got me thinking about this on another thread. I truly enjoyed my interaction with this poster on the 5th amendment and am projecting it onto the 17th. Wonder what the Critic says...

Thank you for the kind words, I thoroughly enjoyed our other discussion also. Excellent job of projecting, I hope I didn’t let you down.

Why would you have such a difficult time looking at and into a situation where we are talking about election fraud, isn't the idea to identify it and take measures to stop it?

Bitch about everything dems are doing but can't and won't look at all or any of the problem states and acknowledge there are problems.

You brought it up. Where are the FACTS???

North Carolina is a case where people involved in illegally collecting ballots are talking, it's going to be one of the easier things to prove.

States where GOP controls their house and senate that are stripping the powers their governor has because a dem won the election is easy to see, it doesn't take any thinking to understand it, and that it doesn't even make any sense to change the rules for the other party.

You want facts you have to pull your head out and look at them.

Been researching voter suppression in N Carolina. Just what I thought. Their idea of voter suppression was voter I. D. According to liberals N.C. blacks are too stupid to get an I. D. My idea of voter suppression is votes by ineligible voters who suppress the legitimate votes.

What are you looking at Florio?

Their election board has voted twice not to certify the election because of serious election fraud. A consultant paid to handle absentee ballots got a little carried away with the process. Seems he paid people to canvass neighborhoods collecting their ballots, filled out out not, they said they would handle it. They voted GOP on blank ones, and threw away the ones filled out for the Dem. The first woman they found, who had no idea what she was doing was wrong, was turning stacks of ballots in to her boss every week. Proof of several types is accumulating, including ballots themselves that are witness signed by the same people. It sounds like as many as 80 people were hired to collect ballots.

You guys deny and defend before you know anything, and when evidence does come out switch over to so what or relevancy and false equivalency defenses. So what, what dems did in Florida was worse...

How does anything get fixed when you won't simply use your brains and morals intelligently to understand and fix problems no matter who is responsible?Cases like this that are so blatant and easy to prove show us how you guys are thinking when other things that aren't so easy to get to the bottom of are being looked at. If you can't look at an obvious fraud without trying to run cover for your party when they got caught red handed, it's obvious you won't do it anywhere else.

There are two dozen forms of voter suppression, different types of voter fraud, a hundred ways to perpetrate election fraud, which are best made possible when one party has a lock on the election process. Your idea of voter suppression is very limited in scope in relation to all of the problems.

North Carolina right now is about illegally collecting ballots from dems, filling out ones that haven't been, and throwing away the ones that have. This looks to have easily gone beyond the 900 vote margin the republican, Harris, won by. Try your search with a tighter focus on that ongoing issue or you won't have a clue.

America’s “democratic process” was originally damaged by Democrats in 1913 with the ratification of the 17th amendment. Let’s correct that mistake first.

No, we need to work on the election fraud going on right now, is this what passes for your idea of critical thinking?

But when you moonbatty dems were winning elections (think obammy) with election fraud (over 100% voter turn outs in black precincts, dead people voting, illegals voting, black panthers intimidating white voters) and the repubs were hollering election fraud, you guys were adamant there was no election fraud. Hmmm...Funny when the boot is on the other foot ain't it? Someone should stick a boot up your arse!

Why? So you can blow them off as not from your approved sources? See, that is the problem. A moonbatty source will never disagree with moonbat dogma no more than a conservtive source will disagree with right wing dogma. One has to sort it out for themself.

"Leftist Democrats have long mocked the notion of voter fraud, dismissing it as an insidious myth invented by racist Republicans in order to suppress the minority vote. However, yet another report has shown that voter fraud is very much a real thing.

Even a tiny amount of voter fraud can swing close elections.

The left's penchant for thumbing their nose at the concept of voter fraud is a facade of elitist snobbery in order to hide the fact that they want to win by hook or by crook, even if it requires turning a blind eye when the law is broken."

There was no provable election fraud--and it was investigated by the GOP! If there was one instance, it would have been shouted from the rooftops. So please supply the report on proven election fraud.

OK, let's start with one part of your voter fraud "stew".

"Leftist Democrats have long mocked the notion of voter fraud, dismissing it as an insidious myth invented by racist Republicans in order to suppress the minority vote. However, yet another report has shown that voter fraud is very much a real thing."

Individual voter fraud, yes the "Leftist Democrats" mocked the claimes of illegals and dead people voting.
The Reflubs demanded photo IDs (I have no there) and the Crats pushed back.

Does any of your links support the fact there is a problem with illegals and dead people voting?
