This is for Doc since he keeps asking for proof but when shown that proof he ignores it.

If Catholics want to say we need sacred tradition in order to be properly equipped doctrinally and spiritually, then they must establish that the Bible is not sufficient for teaching, or proof, correction, and training in righteousness and doctrinal issues.

These verses are also in the Catholic version of the bible so we can prove sola scriptura with the Catholic version.

Tim. 3:16-17, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 that the man of God may be adequate--equipped for every good work."

Psalm 19

7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;

8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;

9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules[d] of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.

11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.

13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

There are more but I kept them out for easier reading as these are very specific.

I was a teacher in the (Awana) spelling? program in our church and I can remember memorizing these scriptures and helping both my children and others memorize them as well. Thank you Rose42

Good Afternoon 🌹 Rose;

The Lord blessed us when he sent you to this section at OPP! Not only to share your knowledge of the scriptures and your faith, but especially for any Catholic that can identify with you and your journey from Catholicism to the real Church of Jesus Christ. You are such a wonderful example of how a Christian is to conduct themselves and how they are to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. You never lose your composure, you never take their bate..... you always stand your ground and continue your mission! You are a perfect addition to Jack and Zemira.... they are both amazing in their knowledge and their Faith! I am honored to sit beside my friend Balmer in his Amen section!

May the Lord continue to guide and direct you!

Believe me, I'm not a good example by a long shot. But I'm glad to be here. I'm still looking through some of Zemirah's posts - she's put a lot of good info up.

Thank you, Rose, you're most kind.

Much of my time this past week has been preoccupied by visits to hospitals (for testing,) and various physician's offices, for more than one long neglected malady... which is, to a certain degree perhaps, the natural maintenance required after passing into the seventies.

The combination of pain, limited mobility, and a dozen medications has given me a (hopefully temporary) disposition teetering between a rattlesnake and a wounded grizzly.

Writing on OPP is a welcome diversion, but the last few days has certainly not been my best effort.

Again, thank you all for ignoring my lack of geniality.

Thank you, through God's grace alone, Rose, I never give in, never give up.

As with all His called-out ones, the "ecclesia"/Body of Christ, the calming reassuring presence of the Holy Spirit is always within me, an irreplaceable teacher, guide and counselor.

God has blessed my life, as He has blessed yours through His grace, leading us to a saving faith in Jesus Christ through the gospel (good news) embedded in His Holy Word.

Thank you, TexaCan, for your inclusion of kind words of praise.

Your own knowledge of Scripture, and your self-expression are unsurpassible, and a pleasure to read.

I'm sorry you're having a problem with your eyes, and uphold you in my prayers.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you that are on this thread. I hope that you all are blessed with good food and wonderful family and friends this thanksgiving. This is to all the protestants, Catholics and even the Eastern Orthodox. May you all have a joyous Thanksgiving. Bruce. This is a copy and paste and I see that neither Radiance3,Doc110 nor padremike have joined us here so if they do show later this is for them as well.

"Teetering between a rattlesnake and a grizzly" !!!!!!!!! That's much better than , "getting old is not for wuzzies" !!!!!!!!!

I sincerely hope you get to feeling better ! I went to the Doctor yesterday and he doubled my blood pressure medication and prescribed less medication for my Sugar Diabetes! It seems a little Radical to me, but what do
I know! I'm not going to make the changes until after tomorrow. I don't want to not be able to get off the couch and miss playing with our twin great granddaughters! They just turned one year old and are so gorgeously adorably cute and are so funny!

I have immensely enjoyed your diversion here in this section on OPP! I've been here since 2015 and I think this is the most participation over the last few months that I can remember. I would like to see even more people join in our conversations.

I hope everyone has a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!

I see where Doc110 has a new one up about praying for the dead of CA. Again I don't know any scripture aside from with first or second Maccabees in their old testament that mentions praying for the dead. Again it is not mentioned in any of the scriptures in our bible.

Hi TexaCan,

I wish you a really special Thanksgiving day with your family, and especially those beautiful cuddly twin girls.

My youngest granddaughter is eight, and there are no babies in our immediate family.

Keeping track of medications can be a hassle. I often run out of hours in the day before I run out of prescriptions.

As to new prescriptions, I always read the entire advisory the drug store supplies with them; after which I think about all those possible side effects and interactions with my present medications, and sometimes delay
adding them to my routine for days or weeks (unless for an infection or for pain).

I hope your new prescriptions will be a good fit, and prove to be of benefit.

I have found that the doctors of my childhood who could actually tell you what is wrong and what to do about it are gone; today they require us to inform them what the problem is, and what should be done about it.

You would appreciate my brother, 6'2" tall, former Marine, Viet-Nam vet, he formerly raised Appaloosas, then had quarter horses he entered in horse shows, mostly around the mid-west. He accuses me of having a "silver tongue," but he is unexcelled for his dry wit and caustic speech.

Again, Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Bahmer,

I couldn't find Doc's "prayers for the dead" summary, and believe it is buried in one of his multi-page (if printed out) diatribes, - so thought I'd post it here - in response...

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that some Christ-followers who have died will spend time in a holding place, Purgatory, before they can enter heaven. These are people who died having committed venial sins that were not sufficiently atoned for. Roman Catholics are encouraged to pray for those in Purgatory so that their suffering will be eased and their time shortened. Since Purgatory does not actually exist, it is foolish to pray for anyone affiliated with it.

The second case is when a believer prays that an unbeliever who has died will accept Christ in the afterlife. Unfortunately, this is not possible. People do not receive a second chance to repent after they have died. If they did, the rich man in Luke 16:19-31 would have asked forgiveness for himself, not his brothers. And Hebrews 9:27 agrees, saying, "just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."

1 Peter 3:18-19 says that between the crucifixion and the resurrection, Jesus "proclaimed to the spirits in prison." The prison in question is generally regarded to be the holding place for demons who sinned so egregiously God removed them from earth. The word translated "preach" means to herald a message. Jesus announced that He had conquered Satan and his forces, but He did not offer life to people who had already died rejecting Him.

So, the Bible tells us there is no Purgatory and there is no second chance at salvation after death; it follows that it is useless to pray for the dead as related to these topics.

"There is no concrete evidence at all that Onesiphorus was dead. The arguments for his demise are all based upon inferences, none of which are “necessary.”

That his actions are spoken of in the past tense is perfectly understandable since he was no longer in Rome.

The fact that Paul did not mention him in 2nd Timothy 4:19, in sending greetings to those in Ephesus, is not troubling — if Onesiphorus himself was somewhere other than in Ephesus.

The fact that Paul prayed for this brother is proof within itself that he was not dead, since there is not a shred of evidence in the New Testament that prayers for the dead are acceptable.

If the brother was dead, why did the apostle offer no word of comfort to the family? (Note: While some deny that this was a “prayer,” most scholars affirm that it is).

Jesus, the Apostles, and all the writers of the New Testament did not consider the apocryphal books as inspired and authoritative. Though they had access to them (since they were “bound up” with the Greek Old Testament), they never quoted from them; this is powerful evidence that they did not view them as in the same class with the Old Testament documents.

If Onesiphorus, as a godly man, was dead, there would be no need to petition God for mercy on his behalf; he would have been a recipient of that mercy already.

If the brother died as an apostate (of which there is no evidence), Paul’s prayer for “mercy” would be worthless inasmuch as mercy will be bestowed on the basis of one’s personal relationship with the Lord, not on that of another’s actions (Ezekiel 18:20; 2 Corinthians 5:10).

Moreover, the wicked dead cannot leave their place of torment (Luke 16:26), and their punishment is “eternal” in duration (Matthew 25:46).

Accordingly, these texts in Paul’s second epistle to Timothy do not come remotely close to providing the coveted evidence for the validity of prayers for the dead.
