I am about to give a lot of unnecessary background information to this story.

I work for the Alamagordo, NM, local Christian TV station, Vision Broadcasting. It is mostly volunteer. Back in July, The Big Give Project sponsored by the Local Air Force base helped to restore the historic Sands Theatre, in which we have been housed for about thirty years. It was an enormous undertaking, for that theatre area was like the reality show "Buried Alive" on steroids. All the old theater seats that had been gathering dust for a few decades, some of which were sold to raise money for our tight budget operation, were all put in place to make it theater ready. This was something of a miracle. We started showing uplifting and family values movies the last week of December and have been showing the same in new release DVDs ever since.

The present:
I don't know what was going on with me but I have been feeling off for a few days; can't really describe it. I became the theater manager so I was there today, the 27th. Last night we did fantastic, best night by far since we started: SRO. We are showing Disney's "Frozen." About a week ago, a young man with obvious physical and mental difficulties came by and I gave him a tour. He had his care giver with him. No big deal but he seemed to like the attention. Never gave it another thought.

I was the projectionist for the matinee today. At the designated time, I went to the booth and just happened to notice the young man had the seat closest to the booth. Fixated, I just waved and went about my business, and sort of preoccupied with my strange physical condition. (At 67, this is not something to brush off.) My job done, I left the booth and walked over to the young man, who was sitting with his mother. I said, "Great! you came back. Good to see you." His smile was a super nova at the recognition; my heart nearly stopped at the simple joy he showed. Ow, and then he struggled up out his seat and hugged me, rocking me back and forth. I feel about a healthy twenty years old now, all the odd physical feelings and even aches gone.

No matter who you are, what you do, where you are, there will always be someone worse off than you.

It is such a joy to be able to see this and an even greater joy to reach out to those who are worse off than we are and make them feel that they have value and worth as a person.

Good Story... Do unto others as you would have them do unto to you. :XD: :XD: :XD:

Great story. Just goes to show, when you give love, you get love back. And I am sure it made you feel better. Hope you find out what is wrong. I am three years older than you, so I understand we can't brush things off as we did when we were twenty.

Thank you all for your kind words and concern. It just was a necessary reminded to me, and given in the best way possible, not to pre-occupied with my own problems and fail to be occupied with others.

For the rest of you, ginnyt, ever straightforward and kind, wrote in German, "Well, that's a story to tell your grandchildren. Sounds like one that. Directly from several feel good books I've read, but it is good that someone is recognized the better part of your available Good luck with your new career."
Not a new career, part of my volunteering for the Christian TV Station, but thank you for your sincere well wishes.
Second time you wrote "...Directly from several feel good books I've read" for one of my experience stories. Interesting.

I can see where you may be suspicious of my words knowing that you have made it clear you share the opinion of the Saudi sheikh Abd Al-Rahman Al-Sudayyis, imam and preacher at the Al-Haraam mosque. He urged the Arabs to give up peace initiatives with Jews because they are "the scum of the human race, the rats of the world, the violators of pacts and agreements, the murderers of the prophets, and the offspring of apes and pigs." I am sure you are familiar with the Koran verse regarding Jews being turned into Apes and Pigs. But, for anyone else that may be reading this: "The divine punishment of Jews is mentioned in three Koranic verses: "... They are those whom Allah has cast aside and on whom His wrath has fallen and of whom He has made some as apes and swine..." (5:60); "...You have surely known the end of those from amongst you who t***sgressed in the matter of the Sabbath, in consequence of which we condemned them: Be ye like apes, despised" (2:65); and "when, instead of amending, they became more persistent in the pursuit of that which they were forbidden, we condemned them: Be ye as apes, despised." (7:166)"

Google t***slate does an okay job in t***slating. Anyway, your story is one to pass onto your children and grandchildren and then to theirs. It is a story of kindness, a story that allows a person to transcend their petty differences and complaints. I assure you, I did not mean harm when I wished you well with your new responsibilities nor did I intend insult in comparing your story to feel good books. You may not believe this, but there are times; and if I may quote Lana Del Rey "Life imitates art". And to me, all good art is a t***slation of life.

ginnyt, I warned you: cease this crap that I am "a closet Muslim" or anti-Semitic: it is a vicious lie. This will most likely get you banned if I press it. You have a good and important voice here: do not push me on this, it is a sensitive issue. I loved my next door neighbor, Ben Ostrofski, very much and greatly respected him, a Polish Jew from the camps. He is probably responsible for me having a life far better than I deserved with the attitudes I was immersed in. In his name, please, desist.

Now I am baffled. This is a quote from another thread

"..... Any movement against Islam will, I feel, ultimately bring chaos here and worldwide. The wise alternative? The only alternative? Start with apologizing for our direct interference in the sovereign affairs of ME countries either to favor or establish allies at both great risk and usual detriment to the population in those nations. If you want the "all is fair in love and war attitude" than terrorism is approved." While you say in this comment "I warned you: cease this crap that I am "a closet Muslim" or anti-Semitic: it is a vicious lie. This will most likely get you banned if I press it. "

Please explain, the first quote seems to me, but I am not an expert, that you are saying that we need to apologize and if not then terrorism is approved....And tell me how this is not supporting Muslim beliefs. What am I misunderstanding?. Many thanks
