Anyone here know anything about water wells?

Our pump is out, and I'm getting conflicting information from well fixer people. One tells me that a 1hp 20gpm pump won't push enough pressure, and another tells me that a 10 gpm pump won't push enough pressure. This is out of my vast scope of knowledge about how things work.
My well is more than 250 ft deep, and I'm trying to figure out what pump I need that will last.

Hey archie, I'm not a 'well' guy (or so I've been told by a lot of folks on this forum ) but I found some info that might help.

The 2nd reference has more links for well-related info. I hope this is helpful. Good luck and keep us posted.

My well is about the same depth as yours. Last summer I replaced a 1 1/2 hp pump with a 1 hp pump and it has been working okay.
That pump was available locally. I live alone so my water usage is low.

If your electric circuit can handle a1-1/2 hp and your well produces the 20 gpm, from my experience go with that.

If you don't do this yourself, let me know what it cost you.
I'd like to know how much I saved! It wasn't a fun job!

That's why I'm trying to figure out the pump situation. I've got two different well guys who will both pull, and install it for 600 bucks, but they're telling me two different things. I'm just trying to make an informed decision here.

I replaced my pump 10 yrs ago all by myself and I have only one arm. I looked on the net a bought a 1 hp submersible. U want a sub because of the high lift. Pumps push much more efficiently than pull. I'll look on the net and give U more info in a bit. I found one , a 2hp 22 gal a minute 180 psi, $195. on Amazon. Google "DEEP WELL PUMPS"

$600 sounds very reasonable.

I could do it myself, but I'll have to rent equipment, so I figure by the time I do all of that, and not being exactly sure of what I'm doing, 600 bucks for a well Guy ain't bad.

I have a pump that he told me to get with my name on it at Tractor Supply, but the gallon per minute thing is bugging me for some reason.

I'll figger it out. This just happened at a really busy time with a lot going on, and I haven't been able to focus very well.

Goulds Model 10GS 10 GPM pump se******n chart

https://www.lockewell.com/pdf/goulds/GS-5-25.pdf

A 10GS10 (1 HP) will produce about 4 GPM @ 50 PSI at 220 feet. You need to add the height in feet to your pump working pressure.

The 10GS15 (1.5 HP) pump produces 12.8 GPM @ 60 PSI at 220 feet

If you know that your water level in the well falls down to the 200 foot level in the Summer, the 10GS15 (1.5 HP) pump might be needed.

Choose a pump that puts the pumping GPM in the middle of the curve.

Since wells are not part of my vast knowledge
I have done my best to abstain from this conversation
but since it is such a dilemma for you Arch
I'll offer this
Put Slatten in the bottom of your well
with all his hot air
he could push the water through all your pipes

But..........I would worry that he might over-pressurize the system, and blow out my pipes, and fixtures.
