Neiman Marcus Cookie - $250 Cookie Recipe

($250 cookie recipe) This is the famous "Neiman Marcus" cookie recipe that has been floating around the Internet for years. Although the story behind the recipe is now known to be a hoax, it makes a very nice, light Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie. The proportions given here make a huge quantity of good sized cookies; you can cut the recipe in half with no problems

2 cups (1 lb) butter
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 cups white sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
5 cups blended oatmeal
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
4 Oz chocolate chips
8 Oz Milk Chocolate bar, grated
3 cups chopped nuts

· Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Chill the Milk Chocolate Bar(s) in the freezer.
· In a large bowl, cream the room temperature butter and the sugars (white and brown) for five minutes on medium speed. Add in the vanilla and eggs one at a time and mix until well incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
· Blend the 5 cups of oatmeal in a blender until it is a uniform powder. Mix the blended oatmeal with the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, nuts and Chocolate Chips in a very large mixing bowl.
· Grate the chocolate bar(s) (Hershey, Ghiardelli, or equivalent) into the mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly mix the ingredients uniformly.
· Add the creamed Sugars and Butter to the flour mix and again use your hands to thoroughly mix the ingredients uniformly
· Roll into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Press the top of each cookie with a fork. Bake for 6 - 8 minutes. Cool. Yields about 117 cookies.

I last made this recipe fifteen years ago, when a neighbor's son asked me to assist him in his Eagle Scout project, by baking some Cookies for him. I made six batches at a cost then, of between 60 and 70 dollars. Over seven hundred of these gems. He sold them at his bake sale at two bucks a piece. He had many other bakers donating other pastry specialties and a team of younger scouts manning the sales tables. All of the proceeds went into new shelving for our local public library, a much needed replacement. As you can see this recipe is very similar to one recently posted.
