I read this opinion on Quora Digest and chose to reprint it with minor corrections, as I basically agree with Mr. Wilson

By Eric Wilson

So we’re going to break this down really quick. Lets say that CNN was an enemy of the state, why? Well, it’s because they are biased. Why is this a bad thing, others like FOX are fairly biased as well, so it must be because not only are they biased but because they are biased and disagree with the right wing views. So, if CNN were the enemy of the state, their charge would be ‘views that disagree with the president.' So to put that into perspective, at least 50% of the country would also be considered enemies of the state.

This question is the perfect place to get this point across, as it isn’t an issue of left vs right. That false dichotomy has been destroying our country ever since the Reagan administration. We are all Americans, so does it really make your next door neighbor an enemy if he v**ed differently from you? Both ‘sides’ are pushing so hard to demonize and dehumanize the ‘other side’, and why? Are we not all humans, do we not all share in the same hopes and fears and goals and dreams? The only difference, and I need to emphasize this, the ONLY difference between someone on the left and someone on the right is what we think the best solutions would be. That is what truly made America great, people of differing views on solutions and achieving goals working together to reach those same goals.

How are we supposed to work together at this point when the false dichotomy between the two ‘sides’ is so strong that your average person on either ‘side’ is so full of animosity and venom that they’d not flinch if the other side were brutally murdered? I try to have a discussion with someone on the left, I slightly disagree with what they are saying, and suddenly I’m one of the ‘others’ and I get called a r****t sexist bible- thumping moron and anything else they’ve been trained to use as an insult toward someone on the right. I do the same with someone on the right and get the same result, I’m an i***tic godless baby k*****g gun grabbing Muslim-loving liberal. People have been taught for so long that anyone who disagrees is an enemy, that those enemies are all the same, and that there’s no room for middle ground. These days the self given title of ‘independent’ is meaningless, it typically means that the person saying it is polarized but resists the party on their side for not being polarized enough. This false dichotomy prevents communication, prevents discussion and actual solutions and actual progress. We’ve gone from moving forward as a country, being the world leaders in innovative ideas and progress both scientifically and idealistically, to being a stagnant country in a semi-permanent tug of war for power.

I wanted to run for congress in 2018, I ended up not doing it simply because I don’t have the funding to successfully run an independent campaign, but as part of that goal I took on a mission; I started regularly talking to people I disagree with, regularly having discussions with people on all sides of the political spectrum, and I’ve learned a lot more than I thought I would. Even I’ve been guilty in the past of dehumanizing others who disagree and lumping them all in together. The most important thing I’ve learned, for the most part the ‘sides’ are meaningless. We all want the same things, we all want our kids to grow up healthy and educated, we all want out homes to be safe and prosperous, we all want our lives to feel meaningful. All of the energy we put into casting blame, into pointing the finger and finding a villain, into gaining support for our ‘side’ by creating outrage at the other ‘side’…. If we put a fraction of that energy into simply talking, working together to find individual solutions for individual problems, we really could be great(er).

Didn't you tell me, not long ago, that you don't watch CNN ?

So if that's true, how do you know that CNN is 'not' an enemy of the state ?

Not even close, BigMike. That is no different than another stating anyone who lies like FOX is an enemy to God and humanity. Those are the type of statements Mr. Wilson pointed out as empty or inane. Disappointing, I must say, as I figured you better than that.

Unless, of course, you were joking...and, I saw no emoticons suggesting you were.

The alphabet media has been biased for decades. But before Obama was in office they at least made an attempt to APPEAR objective. While Obama was in office the vast majority of the media excused, defended, covered for, misinformed, REFUSED to inform and outright lied to protect and promote Obama and his radical agenda, while at the same time accusing any journalist who dared to ask tough, (or any,) questions about the Obama administration, of r****m. And once Hillary couldn't c***t herself into the White House, this same media, (along with Congressional Democrats,) has been using unnamed sources, unknown experts, innuendo, h**e-filled rhetoric and horrific comments about President Trump's family AND those who v**ed for him, along with inciting, and excusing harassment and violence towards Trump supporters to smear President AND his supporters. Yes, that kind of propaganda machine IS an enemy of the people.

Well, Mr. Counselor, as I wrote, the article was an opinion by Mr. Eric Wilson from Quora. My watching or not watching CNN had nothing to do with his written opinion. He could just as easily written in any of the MSM networks as a recipient of President Trump's wrath.

Try focusing more on the gist of the article, Wolf. You can do it, I know you can.

'Til tomorrow. Good night.

You opened the thread with a comment stating that you "agree" with the author.

Isn't the "gist" of the article in regard to CNN being accused of being an enemy of the state ?

I thought you had better comprehension than that, Wolf. The gist of Mr. Wilson's comments speaks to the belief of many that anything contrary to their personal beliefs constitutes others being enemies of the state. CNN is only mentioned in the opening paragraph (as is FOX) and not again in the remainder of his comments. The focus of his thoughts pertained to rigid party/ideological partisanship preventing workable solutions.

I believe that fear is the root of all the animosity. Deep down, even the 50% who support Trump fear that their support may be misplaced and don't want that pointed out every time they turn on the TV. The 50% that do not support Trump, fear that his policies may be successful and that he might very well grow into his oversized billing, um, of himself.

When one is unsure about one's own place in the world, it helps to have enemies to expend one's angst on. The alt right fears that the alt left may eventually win, kicking them to the curb and displacing them from their rightful place. I believe that the vast majority of Americans would prefer just to be left alone, but fear that the few will try to rule the many................doing everything EXCEPT leaving them alone.
