Vietnam Era Veteran Fed UP with Congress and VA

I am a veteran of the Vietnam Era. I am writing about how we were tossed aside during the 2008 foreclosure crisis. I had paid off two VA loans. In August of 2008, when Bush was telling everyone the economy was strong, we bought our third home through VA. My credit score was over 800. In less than six weeks the economy collapsed. My wife and I both were laid off. We tried and used all our savings and sold almost everything we had to keep the home. In the end the house went into foreclosure. The VA nor the Bank of America did anything to help us. After three years, Wall Street is doing great, the rich are still richer. We now have a steady income. We wanted to buy a house. We were appalled to find out the VA (because of rules they say are due to Congress) will give us a loan only if we borrow almost twice what we want to borrow. It is insane but it is true. That is how we got into the insanity, and the VA just wants to keep us there. We could buy a home, but we can't afford to borrow twice as much as we need. This is the way they help veterans. I hope someone from the VA does something, I have talked to ten officials so far and none of them seem to care. It is sad, we lose everything so the people that caused us to lose everything, have everything. We can't have anything because we are not allowed the things we can afford, but are allowed the things we can't afford. The people that caused it all walk away with everything and could not care less that they caused us to lose everything. This is the insanity of the Congress and the VA. It is an injustice to all veterans!

I believe what you stated, but I am confused and dismayed that you are having so many problems. I wonder if these problems are localized. Here in Amarillo, we have a great VA Administration. Now this may be due to so many Veterans live here, and there is a large VA Hospital here.
Everyone that I have spoken to about Benefits have been extra helpful and go out of their way to provide needed services. I would suggest that you go elsewhere if you can and seek help from the VA. Your local may just not be interested or knowledgable enough to help anyone other than themselves, as they are a Gov't entity and are prone to corruption and mismanagment.
