I came to the board in the hopes of finding people who wanted to discuss the political events of the day, enlighten some with my wisdom (yeah, right) and be enlightened by some with more wisdom than myself. What I found was a few of these individuals, who usually quit posting new topics because they got tired of every topic being bastardized into a bunch of infantile rants that amounted to no more than "my party is great and you are stupid". I even found myself sucked into that mind set for a while. I have to say, this is a very interesting group, but simply not what I'm looking for in a forum where I might spend a couple hours a day.
To you who think you have succeeded in driving me away, you think way too much of yourself.
There is one group I would like to address before leaving and that group is a subset of the Christians on this board.
I am a Christian, but not because I'm perfect, not because I'm better than anyone else, not because of my incredible intelligence nor my dashing good looks (Thank God those last two aren't prerequisites),and most of all, not because of any great "works" on my part. I AM a Christian because of the Grace of God and nothing else.
The subset I want to say a final word to are those who think that the Holy Bible is good for everything, but specially good since it's heavy, for beating people over the head.
The Bible does contain everything you need and is good for teaching and reproach, but the teaching is supposed to be about the love of God, and the reproach is supposed to be to other Christians.
I say to you, you are an embarrassment to the faith and someday you might just have to explain yourself (at least your words) to God Almighty.
Why is it that someone who is "saved" by the Grace of God and not by works, turns around and uses the Holy and unerring Word of God as a sledgehammer to beat others with? Really? If this is what you are being taught, change churches. If you didn't learn this in church, pay attention!
I know this isn't loving speak, but remember that the people Jesus called a brood of snakes as well as other choice names were the religious leaders. This is exactly what you are... you wash your hands according to the old testament and you seem to think this makes you better than others... you are not! You hinder the advancement of the kingdom of God, not encourage it. I do know that there are loving Christians in the world because they were the ones who made me feel that Christianity was worth looking into.
To you who are here for a good political discussion, good luck and I wish you well.
To you who are Christian and understand my rant, God bless (I won't bless non-Christians simply because I am not trying to be offensive to any other than my "brotherhood" today).
There will be a few characters I'll miss, and I know there are many here who don't fit any group I mentioned and to those, please don't take offense at my rant... it simply wasn't aimed at you.

I am a reciente correspondent and have not established what direction I would
like to take. I am interested in politics, but have been a conservative for 70 some years now. Doubtful that impresses anyone. Just have a hard time absorbing our present drift to Socialism. I don't have all that much time now, but I am really sorry for what the children will have to go through.

Bob, I wish you were staying - I don't want you to leave. But I understand totally. There are days I feel I am wasting my last years when I try to get people to hear what I am saying. I've tried several sites prior to this one, and wound up leaving every one of them for the same reasons. Wh**ever you do, wherever you go, I wish you the best. You are a good person and deserve the best. We, especially I, will miss you. Am sending a bouquet just for you being you.
