It was massive debt caused the depression. The Federal Reserve excercated it by tightening credit and Congress passed a protectionist Smoot Hawley Tarrif Act futher worsening the problem and spreading the depression to Europe, hitting Germany especially hard and helped Hitler and the n**i party's rise to power. When the bsnks begsan calling in loans no body clould pay banks closed swollowing the peopoles savings as they had five times in the 19th century. The Shah's funds in all the known bank accounts around the world so far added up about billion dollars.

So just because Iran demanded the US cover the amount they claim Mohammad Reza Shah had to the tune of billions of dollars in exchange for the hostage release, does not mean we owe it.

As for the Iran deal; when the left wanted to say how great it was, it was attributed to Obama. It was known as Obama's Iran deal.
