I don't consider it treasonous to v**e Democrat. Misguided, usually. I v**ed for a Democrat for County Commissioner a few years ago. I actively opposed my Republican Congressman, who is a sock puppet for Paul Ryan.

It might be interesting to have a thread to discuss sovereignty (i.e., the authority of a state to govern itself or another state) and what might threaten it.

Good idea, I'll be looking for it..

Hello Otis. I have to say that I was in agreement with you until I read through the thread, and saw this comment.
I live in Texas, sir, and THIS is God's country! Or is it Marlboro country?
Awww hell, I don't remember, but welcome!

Hello all 😎
About a year ago I became aware of OPP and started following it on a daily basis. I had been reading Daily Kos for a while but wondered what the other side of the story was. I want to start by saying that I am not a Democrat nor a Republican, I am an American! I believe that the political divide in this country is counterproductive to our nation and the world and we must put aside derisive rhetoric and come together as the one people we truly are, Americans!
The issues that separate us are not nearly as important as the ones that bind us together and make us one people and nation

I was raised by loving parents on a small farm in S.W. Michigan and learned from my father and mother a work ethic that has served me well my entire life. I have tried to instill that same work ethic in my children to a lessor or greater degree. All you can do as they grow is try to teach by example and simply be there for them. I can truly say that I am proud of all of them! πŸ‘. A blessing to be sure. πŸ™

I worked as a salesman and sales manager for most of my life and enjoyed a decent income and life until an injury forced me to retire at the age of 50. I currently live in western New York State with my wife and her mother and our golden-doodle. (Who is the real boss of the family. Lol ). I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1976 for 4 years active and 2 years reserve. Took basic training at Great Mistakes Illinois in February of that year and have been cold ever since. Lol
Most of my time these days is spent on music and reading and the ever present honey- list. I look forward to having positive discourse with you all here on OPP as we come together as the true Americans that we are whether conservatives or liberal.

Thank you for your time.
Otis

Welcome to OPP. Enjoy the ride. You know, given the apathy of the average American v**er, it's nice to see that people are still able to get riled up over politics. Even the ones I disagree with are a cut above the average clueless constituent, simply because they care enough to get mad.

That is one area where the Federal government excels at overreach. If a product is produced and consumed or used within a state, it is none of the Fed's damn business unless it crosses state lines or impacts another state in some way.

Welcome aboard dude! If everyone thought the way you do this country might get back to normal again, I just hope it's not too late. But let certain people know that we will fight for the rights of the constitution,as long as we have breath! Well back to you enjoy, and have a good time on opp?

What separates us is the media and the ideologies of the parties. We have to come to gather as Americans. What happens when we have a Katrina, a Harvey, an Irma and a 9/11. We come together as Americans. What happened after this last school shooting ? Both parties hunkered down in each of their agendas. This is not about parties, this is about protecting our children. I survived two wars, and saw the death. Now these children have seen that same thing that we saw on a battlefield. It is wrong that our children have to live in the same world that we fought to protect them from. It is time that we Patriots demand our elected officials to give our children in school the same right to protection that they have, at our taxpayer expense. I have two great-grandchildren in school now. Their lives mean more to me than all these self-righteous politicians combined.

Is Hell considered God's country? As Gen. Philip Henry Sheridan said, β€œIf I owned Texas and Hell, I would rent out Texas and live in Hell”.

So now you freeze your buns in Iowa rather than Michigan. Michigan was good training grounds for bun freezing. Having once lived there, against my will, I have never been warm since.

He only said that because the Texan kept kicking his ass.

Hi,Otis Welcome to the squiggly pit of biassed discourse and occasional nuggets of logic. Here you can find some gems of wisdom buried under
the occasional sludge of ignorance and prejudice.
I am pleased to read your contribution, both for hearing about your background and also to note that you know how to spell, punctuate, and write correctly. (I assume you know the difference between the words there, their, and they're? ).
Western NY can get cold too. What was your MOS?

What do I really want? Though this may seem rather rhetorical, I want a more perfect Union, wherein Justice is established, domestic Tranquility insured, our common defense provided, the general Welfare promoted, and the Blessings of Liberty secured to ourselves and our Posterity.
