Gallup conducted a poll of who was the most admired person of the 20th century...mother Teresa was first with 49% of the v**e...Dr King was second receiving 34% of the v**es..but in 1966 63% of Americans held a negative view of the black civil rights leader
In April of 1967 King spoke out publicly against the Vietnam war...the New Times and Washington post lambasted King for speaking out against the Indochina conflict..in all 168 newspapers denounced Dr King after his speech opposing the us being in Vietnam...
The next day after Kings speech..Lyndon Johnson ended his formal relationship with the black civil rights leader..and it was reported that President Johnson remarked "what is that goddamned n****r preacher doing to me, we gave him the civil rights act of 1964, we gave him the v**er right act of 65, we gave him the war on poverty, what more does he want?"
Dr Rev Martin Luther King soon found himself alienated from the liberal establishment..
