People need to work and feel good about themselves and make their families proud that they can take care of them. It is Insand that the government is giving awards to Federal workers who make more people onto the Food stamp program. How stupid is this? We need independence of the government's hand so we can prosper, work with out hands, grow things or make things, grow food and crops, etc. without handouts from the government, which we all are paying for. Why don't people understand the country cannot go on supporting everyone without going broke. The money will end somewhere. If the country goes broke, I truly hope and pray we can all survive the crisis without too much pain. However, Congress and the President, etc. needs to suffer the pain of poverty like the people they are supposed to serve have to suffer - because of their irresponsibilities, their greediness, and their total inconficence. What did people live on before taxes and all these government programs?

Yes that may be true. However taxes are a lot higher in those countries also. There are more people on the government dole also. As for taxes even though they are dollar for dollar less so are the wages less than in the US. So you have to work more hours to earn a living make the percentage ratio of tax dollars to wages greater. Also in many of those countries graft is the norm and the wait period for medical help is longer. I've been to Canada and tried to see a doctor and the wait time was well over 2 hours. When I finally saw him he passed me off to his nurse. Before she could get around to me took another 30 minuets. Checkout was a little faster because I was a cash customer. Yeah Socialised medicine is great. But life exspectancy? Questionable.
