Larry the Legend Loc: Not hiding in Milton

Today's the day when people all across America lifted their glasses and celebrated the death of prohibition; the day the mobsters went back to gambling and prostitution; and the day many, many Americans got rip-roaring drunk, right out there for all to see.

Unfortunately for some, Kansas didn't get the memo until 1948, Oklahoma stayed 'dry' until 1959 and Mississippi finally gave up the temperance ghost in 1966. Even today, ten states have counties where the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

August Busch, of Anheuser-Busch fame, was especially pleased to see the end of prohibition; now his brewery could go back to brewing 'real' beer, instead of the alcohol-free variety. His children decided to honor the big day by giving him a six-horse Clydesdale hitch, and that's how all those Clydesdale Super Bowl ads came to be, all because of the 21st Amendment. Seeing how marketable the horses were, Busch sent them on parade, even using them to deliver a ceremonial case of Budweiser to Franklin D. Roosevelt. The rest, as they say, is history.

And this, is truly a beautiful sight:
