Whenever we watch Trump speak referring to any form of God, I hope you realize it is to only serve him and he does this for the full intention to appeal to his base and that is all. Why people may be grasping for more religion is due to the demise of their present poor living conditions, they are fearful of their future, so now they pray. As things get worse, which he perpetuates, people will feed on this fear and he believes this will also grow his base, and he may be right on that stance.
