we ned to raise the min wage now and up to a least 12 an hr...that way my 2 teenage daughters will not keep hitting me up for money.. they only making 8 an hr now

I assume, and hope, this post was with tongue firmly in cheek.
If the federal minimum wage had been updated since 1974 using the Social Security yardstick, it would now stand at $10.74 an hour

Tom, perhaps you are correct - but there are many ways to look at how to measure a monetary number from date x to day y - more important than that, the question is why should we need government, particularly federal, to set a minimum wage. Before you answer, consider this:
Every year we turn out millions of young people from our public education system with virtually no education or training - or even self discipline. These folks go out and compete, when they want to work, for jobs requiring little education or sk**ls. Meanwhile we import millions more or uneducated unsk**led people to compete for the same jobs.
Perhaps we should consider focusing on the root cause of problems instead of government intervention trying to solve the symptom of the problem the same government largely created.
