The problem is that the "fair tax" will evolve into a VAT faster than the speed of light. Europe has had the VAT for years and it does nothing to benefit the people.

A VAT will charge a tax at every step of production of anything driving up the final price of wh**ever the product is. Another problem is politicians usually can hide these passed along taxes from the public. Say your "fair tax" is 20% of the sales price, then a product retailing at $100.00 will cost the buyer $120.00. The public doesn't realize that the same 20% tax was charged when the raw materials changed hands, when the raw materials where made into something in which to manufacture the item, and then when the supplier purchases the product for distribution and finally when the retailer procures the product for retail sale. Also it's very easy to tamper with, say the government needs a little extra revenue, add a tenth of a percent, no one will care, but the cost to the public keeps going up.

I favor a flat tax somewhere between 10% to 15% no deductions, no breaks for anyone especially corporations. No unearned tax credits no nothing just a simple tax paid annually by everyone rather than the complicated mess we have now.

I probably did not do a very good job of explaining the VAT, but I am against the "fair tax/VAT.
