How do you see yourself?

Just curious. I think of myself as a rather progressive conservative. I think about issues and decide whether I am for or against them and NEVER blindly accept what my party suggests. I am a republican by signing, but have to admit that I've been quite disappointed in my political party's choices lately. I am seriously considering going as non-affiliated simply because of all the loonies in EVERY party I've looked into so far.
When I say I'm a progressive conservative, I mean that I am not a "knee-jerk conservative"... I don't have much tolerance for either knee-jerk conservative nor knee-jerk liberals. So, anyone interested in defining themselves as far as political beliefs? Just curious and like to have non-violent discussions.

Nice post, Bob! How delightfully different from many of the posts herein - low volume presentation of your position coupled with 'whadda you guys think?'

We seem to be rather similar. I'm a registered Republican, but I'm also a scientist and have grown deadly weary of Republican positions that deny well established facts, or attempt the incorporation of religion into legislation. The Democrats, though usually a bit more sensible, have allowed the lures of mammon into their policies. Non-affiliated seems to be looming for my future as well.

Although I usually v**e republican, my political views would allow me to v**e for any candidate that respects the constitution and its bill of rights.

I want the federal government out of the welfare business, even if that costs me my SS and Medicare permanently. I want the federal politicians to quit buying the v**es of our country's most stupid, ignorant and lazy people with my tax money. I guess those ideas mean I'm not a democrat.

I want the federal government to stay out of wars that have no purpose. If you're going to war, go there prepared to k**l everybody. Before you commit one young man's life to a war, be determined to win before departing. I guess that means I'm not a democrat.

I want to be left alone by government, as long as I harm no one else. The only protection I want from the federal government is to protect me from foreign aggression. The only thing I want from state government is to protect me from infringement upon my rights by other people, and the federal government.

Your right to listen to your loud music in your yard doesn't trump my right to lay in my hammock in my yard and listen to the crickets chirp, ... and your right to walk your dog doesn't trump my right to not have your dog crap in my yard.

I don't want any welfare from the government, regardless how bad things get in my life. I can take care of myself, and if I am unable to do so, I am prepared to meet my God. I also don't want to be forced by government to pay welfare for other people. They can take care of themselves, or they can accept wh**ever help is willing offered by those who are willing to offer.

You do wh**ever you want, as long as it does not interfere with my rights. If you damage, or destroy, or steal my property, I want government to force you to make r********ns, and jail you if you don't. You and I have the rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but I don't want government to give you happiness with my money.

Sounds like I'm becoming a libertarian.

Yes, you are very much a Libertarian and so am I. I agree with everything you said, except for the very first part. Now i want to see SS and the rest go too, but not to hurt older people that live on that alone. We can stop it without hurting them and forcing them to live out on the street. That goes for Medicare too. No need to cut everyone off right now, just do it slowly, say over a 10 year period and then end it for everyone. SS you can cut off by age group and still support the older generation that is living only on that.

As for wars, the only war I am interested in fight is one were we are attacked, like WWII. Then we fight it to win with nothing held back. We don't k**l off our young men just to keep some industries going and making money from their wars. That goes for attacking our allies too, if we have that strong of an ally. We also don't try and topple other governments just because we don't like them. If they haven't done anything to us, we have no right to do anything to them.

Welfare has got to go NOW. I would give them 6 months to get a job and then they are on their own. I think that is the saddest thing we ever started and Johnson really bragged about getting the black v**e for the next 200 years on that one, but that is not what he called them.

As for the rest of it. I pretty much go along as it stands. Good luck keeping the progressives off your back now...........

progressive conservative? that's an oxymoron, but I think you mean you are a complete centrist?
