Will YOU come to my defense when I am arrested for peaceful resistance that would be considered by authorities to be illegal?

Peacful resistance to what exactly? Will you be walking down the street naked to protest oppressive nudity laws that unduly infringe on your libertarian right to be left alone to do as you please. Perhaps you will make noise and shine lights in a movie theater that shows a film you do not like. Maybe you will deficate on the floor in a grocery store to protest the misuse of tax money on food stamps. All kidding aside illeagel non violent protest takes many forms and those defending your actions are likely to vary greatly by who what why and how you decide to make your point.

Myself personally I will stand with any one who has justification or I will stand alone for what I believe in no matter the consequences. God gave me rights that no law can dictate. Yes I would come to your defense.

You are a fine man, a great American, Jim. Thank you. You are decisive and a person one feels confident could be relied on. I, too, will come to your defense should you ever need it.

Ed, I want you to know that I, too, would come to your aid. People like you, Jim, and some others here as well, are what it is all about - you are unabashedly AMERICAN, and proud of it and you have the sense of aiding fellow travelers.

They just gave an 83 year old nun a long prison term for a peaceful protest at a nuclear facility. She offered food to the security guard that arrested her for trespassing and then entertained him with song. Can't get much more peaceful than that.
If you get fined by the judge I'll contribute a modest sum. If you get time there realistically isn't much I can do to help.
I just hope, for your sake, that the judge hearing the case isn't BoJetser.

Of course.

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me."

The problem is humans can justify anything. Those who commit genocide do not see it as immoral but a noble purification process. Here is an interesting story from WWII. Two young boys were arrested for stealing bread and sent to prison. This posed a moral dilemma for the commandant: having these young boys in with these older men would create a great temptation for improprieties. So he hung the two boys.

Yet the right to peaceful protest, no matter what the cause, is one of our great freedoms and worth defending even if I strongly disagree with the reason.

You have become a great friend, Rumi. We may not agree on everything, but we know what freedoms are and we know we are responsible for maintaining them lest we lose them. Consider the promise mutual.
