The Koch brothers, notorious for donating large sums of money to right-leaning political causes, might not be as influential as some may think.

Opensecrets.org recently compiled a list of the top all-time donors from 1989 to 2014 and the infamous duo not only fail to take the top slot, but even place in the top 10.
In fact, according to the data, Koch Industries places 59 on the list with $18 million in donations, 90-percent of which went to Republicans.
So who takes the top spot? An organization called ActBlue which bills itself as a PAC allowing individuals and groups to channel their progressive dollars to candidates and movements of their choosing.
That group has donated more than 97 million to political causes, with over 99-percent going to Democrats.
So who occupies the 58 spots ahead of the Evil Koch Bros? Six of the top 10 are

unions. They gave more than $278 million, with most of it going to Democrats.
These are familiar names: AFSCME ($60.6 million), NEA ($53.5 million), IBEW ($44.4 million), UAW ($41.6 million), Carpenters & Joiners ($39.2 million) and SEIU ($38.3 million).
In other words, the six biggest union donors in American politics gave 15 times more to mostly Democrats than the Evil Koch Bros.

Thanks for the info. I'm not surprised by any of this, but it's nice to see it in print. I am sick and tired of all the denigration over the Koch Brothers - solely because the donate to the h**ed enemy of the democrats/c*******ts. Soros has dozens of organizations, all for the furtherance of "Progressivism". He made a bundle after being a rat for the N**i Gestapo. He should be ashamed to show his face, and everyone should be ashamed to be seen with him, but he has the money that make the shallow and soulless gravitate to his pocketbook.
But you forgot to provide the link to the Open Secrets location of this info. I'll look for it.

Sorry emarine: Very very very right...check out a decent site not the ....New York times????
Very interesting, I (as well as possibly others) forget how big a business politics really are. It also makes my little donations feel pretty miniscule.

Click on the address bar and it should now be highlighted in blue. Now hit Control and "C" at the same time and then put your curser where you want the address to be and hit Control "V" at the same time. That should put the link where you want it. Try it and see if that doesn't work for you.

Jetter, the source citing Kochs as 59th counts only certain kinds of political spending. The Koch Brothers have spent several times the amount stated by your source in my state of Wisconsin alone in the past 4 years. Three threads on OPP today citing this donation count source story. ha.
Either you don't know the extent of Koch political spending or you are being disingenuous in posting this very limited scope report on political spending.
Fact: we have several daily Koch financed ads on TV here in Green Bay against the probable Dem candidate against the Kochs' Scott Walker...with the e******n yet a year away and the nominations not even made yet. Insane politics...insane expense...politics on steroids, and politicians like Walker on Koch...as a sign in a downtown Shullsburg, WI window in the recall e******n jokingly put it. ha. Steroids should be banned in politics as in sports. Koch in politics is as sick as coke drug taking.
