"Advocates for improved relations between Jews and Christian evangelicals had hoped that years of working together to support Israel would build bridges between the two otherwise distant communities. But a new poll indicates that mistrust and suspicion still run deep, at least on the Jewish side.

Only one in five Jewish Americans holds favorable views of those aligned with the Christian right, a category that includes most of Israel's evangelical supporters.

"I find this shocking and concerning," said Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founder and president of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, the first major group to engage evangelical Christians in support of Israel. Eckstein and other activists working on Jewish-evangelical relations expressed a sense of betrayal, accusing Jewish liberals of being prejudiced against Christian conservatives and of clinging to pre-conceived notions and stereotypes about evangelicals' beliefs and goals.

The survey, conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute and published April 3, asked Jewish respondents to rate the favorability of several religious groups. Mormons received a 47% favorability rating, Muslims 41.4%; the group described as "Christian Right" was viewed in favorable terms by only 20.9% of Jewish Americans. In contrast, the general American population, as shown by other polling data, views evangelicals more favorably than Muslims and Mormons.

"Most liberal Jews view the Christian right as wanting to impose a Christian America on them," said Marshall Breger, professor at the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law and leading voice on inter-religious relations. "To the extent to which the bulk of Jews are liberal, both politically and culturally, they'll have negative views of the Christian right."

payne, It is certainly true that Jews have had problems with Muslims on occasions, the worst being the present day. The long history of Jews being persecuted in Christian lands go back to the beginning of Christianity. Evangelicals are looked upon with suspicion because of that history, and that their friendliness is only to convert Jews to Christianity.
On several occasions, I personally have experienced this. A Baptist preacher noticed I was wearing a Jewish symbol around my neck on a long fishing trip. For the next six hours, he tried to get me to consider converting. He even followed me into the parking lot. The large majority of Jewish people I know have experienced this kind of disrespect for the Jewish faith at one time or another. It would never occur to me to say something negative about christianity.
In one way, Islam is closer to Judaism than Christianity. Both faiths are all about the fact that God is singular, while Christianity believes in the trinity. Thats where the similarity ends.
Islam is militant, while Judaism concentrates on knowledge and wisdom. Christianity is all about love. The recent history of Jewish- Muslim relations started out as a war over territory. It was the Muslims that turned this into a toxic war of religion. I look forward to an end of this terrible war, and a future of tolerance and peace.

Israel is rated 14th in the world in military strength, coming in ahead of Germany, Australia and Canada. Palestinians aren't even listed as having any military strength.
The Israel/Palestine conflict is about stolen territory and human rights, both of which have been taken from Palestinians.

Mormons are not Christians. With such an error within this article, the rest is not worth paying attention to.

Typical of you fraud. A simple comment is made and you just have to be a smart aleck.

You must think you are important enough for people to always aim their comment at you instead of the article you most. You always have your obsession out in front of you.

Ha! What we have here is a senile old atheist doing the devil's work. payne rejects all religion, thinks all religions are fairy tales and fiction. Yet here he is taking another angle on attacking Jews and defending Muslims. The fool never tires of trying to convince everyone that the Palestinians have some sort of hereditary right to the land that has been the Jewish homeland for over 50 centuries. Before 1920, there were no such people known as Palestinians. The historical record, including extensive archeology in Israel and environs, bears this out. Nothing has ever been found that even remotely suggests a country, culture or people known as Palestine and Palestinians.

The word "Palestine" appears four times in the Old Testament and refers only to a broad region of the eastern Mediterranean coast from the sea to the Jordan valley and from the southern Negev desert to the Galilee Lake region in the north. The word itself is derived from "Plesheth", a name that appears frequently in the Bible and has come into the English language as the name of "Philistine". Plesheth, (root palash) was a general term meaning rolling or migratory. The ancient Philistines were not Arabs, nor even Semites, but were most closely related to the ancient Greeks originating from Asia Minor. The word Palestine (or Palestina) originally identified the region as "the land of the Philistines," a war-like tribe that inhabited much of the region alongside the Hebrew people. But the older name from antiquity for this region was not Palestine, but Canaan, and it is the term most used in the Old Testament regarding this particular parcel of land.

Judaism and Christianity were born in Israel--the capitol or seat of these is Jerusalem. Islam was born in what is now Saudi Arabia--the seat of Islam is Mecca and Medina).

All three of these religions are MONOTHEISTIC (One God). Judaism (founded circa 3000 BCE) and Christianity (founded 33 AD) both worship Yahweh. Islam (founded 632 AD) worships Allah. Christianity does not worship THREE Gods (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), these refer only to THREE aspects of ONE GOD. An analogy might be that the mind, heart and soul are three aspects of one human being.

Yep, without a doubt, that old atheist down in Texas will take every opportunity to attack Israel, Jews and Christians. The irony is he doesn't give a damn about Muslims either. But anti-Semitism is an insidious hatred that inspires the devil in all of us. That crazy old fool actually believes that Israel is the greatest mass murdering nation in history, bar none.

Never mind that during the entire 97 years of Israeli/Arab conflict 90,000 Arabs and 25,000 Israelis have been k**led in the fighting. Never mind that in its 1400 year history, Islam has slaughtered 292 million people, a significant number of whom were (and still are) fellow Muslims. Beginning in 850AD, Islamic militarism wiped out the entire Jewish and Christian populations of north Africa and Spain. The Shia/Sunni schism has never been resolved, so they will go on k*****g each other along with any Christians and Jews they can get their hands on.

You can expect a posting of graphics suggesting that Operation Cast Lead (2008-2009), or Operation Pillar of Defense (2012), or Operation Protective Edge (2014) are in fact Israeli genocidal operations. And, you can expect denial of the Holocaust and that Muslim terrorists had nothing to do with the attacks on the Marine barracks in Beirut and the Khobar towers and the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya and the attack on the Riyadh compound and the USS Cole and the bombing of WTC 1 and 9/11 and Fort Hood and the Boston Marathon and San Bernardino. Then there is all those attacks in Europe. Naw, Muslim Jihadists could not have done such things. They are such saints, aren't they, payne?
