If this divine personage we call God is just sitting high in the clouds only awaiting our praise and obedience, he is not worthy to be called Father. We are to become as "little children": his words. The bumps and bruises and problems we each face everyday are meant for his guidance and healing: that is the job of father to little children. And that is equally true for the fate of this nation and how certain policies affect all of us. In God we trust--or not. Simple. There is, for the Christian, nothing secular: "Hey, we'll take care of this worldly thing but when something spiritual comes up we'll have lunch or something; here's my card."

For me, God is the only thing that vouchsafes our liberties, not our army or government. If we do not call on him first, last, and always to right any wrong or injustice, we effectively say we no longer trust in him. Christ gave his life through agonizing torture and disgrace for those who spat on him and wished him to suffer and die. He also freely died for child molesters, rapists, serial k**lers, muggers, liberals (lol) and a whole lot of other despicable characters. This was highly unacceptable back then, as much as it is now. Forgiveness, feh! They deserve retribution and our disdain. Not in the eyes of Jesus who promoted restorative, not retributive, justice. How sickeningly liberal.

The Bible is very clear for anyone who cares to read it with an open heart. There is only one thing upon which all will be judged, and this is repeated numerous times: how we treat the least of these, the lost and needy. Corporate tax breaks, free enterprise, de-regulation, capitalism are not mentioned. If this is a Christian nation as purported, what is its primary purpose and imperatives?
