Instead of repeating entire topic message, just use name of
sender along with first sentence or two of message

Yes, would be a less confusing. Problem is getting everyone to work together.

People won't even use 'quote reply' correctly, half the time they use 'reply' so until that happens follow the RULES as set forth.

Is that the thing that burns you up more than anything else on this forum there is to write about? Amazing.

I looked you up and this is the only post you have ever made. Wow.

jay-are: I just joined the Forum an hour or two ago, so that
partly explains my low number of contributions to the group. You
did a great job of looking me up.

This first contribution was to suggest that the reading of the
various topics would be made more efficient if you didn't have to skip the long repetitions of each reply.

I'm sorry to have risen your high indignation so soon.

I agree with you about not duplicating long posts using the "Quote Reply" function, but sometimes a few days or more go by with no activity, then someone replies. One can't always understand the reply without the original post.

If someone is replying to a long post the same day it is posted, I agree with deleting all but the first sentence or two, or all but the part of the post that is most relevant. But I also do not think it is that much of a burden on readers to use "Quote Reply" for the whole thing. What's worse are replies that do not use the "Quote Reply" function at all.

bmac32 and I agree on something!

Once you understand how "Quote Reply" works, I think it is okay to delete parts of the original post that aren't relevant. Adds emphasis to do that, too. But NEVER change someone's words and pretend that you quoted them!

Posts that reply to another post without "Quote Reply" can be pretty worthless if you can't tell what they are replying to.

Holy cow, we found something both sides agree on. Now the other side, 10 pages and everyone forgot what the post was about.

At times I am not inclined to respond to the entire message. At those times I delete all but the section I choose to refer to. This can be accomplished in the Reply box.

Sure can be but a lot of people have no idea how to cut and paste.

First you begin with sliding your indicator through wh**ever area you're interested in. Then right click. A box appears with options such as cut, copy, delete, move, paste. Make your choice and click on it. Then, if you're copying, go to the area you've decided upon. Click right and then choose your option which will most probably be "paste." Voila! You're done!.

What indicator? What's an indicator?

Take you point device (mouse or touch pad), place the curser (little arrow that moves around), at the beginning of what is to be cut click and hold the left mouse button moving the curser across what is too be cut (it will be highlighted), now on the keyboard press CTRL+c (that's ctrl AND c) now it's copied. To paste it go where you want it (where you would type) click once wherever you want in and them use CTRL+v.

I prefer the method Alicia uses: after highlighting what you want to copy, use right-click on your mouse, then click on "Copy". Move your cursor to where you want it, right click again and click on "Paste". Faster and easier than using the Control+ keys.
