My grandson is 7, a second grader, and loves to read. He wants books about history. Not websites, BOOKS. He wants to turn a page. He is interested in American history. He only wants to read stuff that is true, and he can learn from. That is per him. No bs!
I'm just looking for suggestions...
Btw, His reading, and comprehension is way above his pay grade!

One that comes to mind is "Profiles in Courage" by JFK. He wrote it while he was recovering from a back injury. It won the Pulitzer Prize.

Find a used book store with "older" history books. A sometimes, well kept secret, public schools have "old" text books stuck in cabinets. The ones stuck in cabinets may be "true". See if your public library has a "used" book store they send their old books to. Our county library has a store they send "older" used books to. They cost very little.

The is a book called, "God and America's Leader's", by Brad O'Leary. It is Quotes from some of America's leader's about our history, events that shaped this great country, and their own personal feeling's. It is quite deep at times, but for an intelligent young person, it should be quite eye opening and thought provoking for them. Good luck, my friend!

It is to bad that we can't get the house and senate to look at these books and run the country accordingly. We have the constitution and the bill of rights and they are in everyday simple to read and understand for the most part and we can't even follow them. America is n a world of hurt and our leaders are inept and illiterate when it comes to this great nation or they are complicit in its demise. Either way most all should be removed and replaced by true believers in our way of life in America and the way it was founded.

See if you can get a copy of Rabble in Arms. It's a great book about the revolutionary war. I read it years ago and found it quite interesting. So much so that I just couldn't put it down.....

I have been reading Si-Cology by Si Robertson. It is not a history book although almost all of it is recollections of his early days on this earth. It has short chapters that may well work pretty well for a kid that age and is just a collection of things in his life. Things like his brothers all attending LSU to play football and him being forced to go there although he didn't want to go. He talks about many things like hunting and like that and I bet a small boy would like it about as much as I have.

No, this book, by the reed maker of the Robertson duck calls, isn't a history book but it does tell a lot of things I bet that boy would enjoy reading about. If he doesn't like it, I bet you would.

Thank you for your input, all of you. I am looking into all.
I took Auntie's advice, and went by a library today, and bought a copy of "Where the red fern grows" for 2.00.
I have always thought that one is a must read.
I know it isn't real history, but he should read it, I think. It is sad. But I think it is also a lesson.
Oldroy, the boy loves Duck Dynasty! Thanks!! I'm on it!!

Hey, Arch, we read "Where the Red Fern Grows" in a college English class. I had a lot of fun funning the prof about the story. She wanted to know how old the 16 year old girl was from the words in the story. Nobody said anything so the class smart ass shot up his hand and replied, "Uh about 36". It brought down the class and even the old maid prof laughed heartily. Darned good book.

Now Si may be a bit dirty with the words, I haven't really read it with any thought about a 7 year old reading it, but you would surely get a kick out of it. I was not a Duck Dynasty fan till I read some of the book and now I watch them for all the laughs they give me.

Lol! Thanks for the warning! I wouldn't give it to him without reading it first anyway, but if it has language issues, I'll just hold on to it!! Lord knows I've put enough money into his mama's "swear jar" over the last 6 years to buy the boy a corvette!!

If he wants to read a "true" history book, you should give him one actually written by the stated author. Something Profiles in Courage was not.

Not sure how using the t***h is politicizing. I thought that was the main objective.
