Russell Walker, the Republican nominee running for state House District 48, loves the Confederate flag, refers to Martin Luther King as “Martin Luther Coon,” and believes that God is a white supremacist.
Newsweek reports:
A North Carolina state House of Representatives candidate who recently won the Republican primary has claimed Jews are Satanic, U.S. soldiers are being poisoned by the government and that God is a white supremacist.
The Charlotte Observer reports:
A website tied to a candidate for the North Carolina General Assembly says God is a racist white supremacist and that Jews are descended from Satan.
Newsweek notes:
Walker’s website that touts his candidacy for the North Carolina General Assembly suggests a wide variety of claims about race, Jews and the Bible.
For example, on his website Walker claims:
What is wrong with being a white supremacist? God is a racist and a white supremacist. Someone or group has to be supreme and that group is the whites of the world … there is no such thing as equality. Someone or something has to be superior and someone and something has to be inferior.
On Tuesday, after reports concerning their deplorable candidate began to circulate in local media, the North Carolina Republican Party withdrew its support for Walker. In a statement GOP chairman Robin Hayes said:
Based on recent behavior and previous statements, the North Carolina Republican Party is unable and unwilling to support the Republican nominated candidate for North Carolina House District 48. The NCGOP along with our local parties in Hoke, Scotland and Robeson Counties will be spending our time and resources supporting Republican candidates that better reflect the values of our party.
And while it is all well and good that the GOP is now withdrawing their support from Walker, one wonders what took so long. Walker has made no secret that he is a white supremacist, and has a very public record of making openly racist statements.
For example, last year, Walker appeared on local media after filing a lawsuit defending the Confederate flag. In the brief clip below Walker can be seen claiming the flag is not a “symbol of racism,” and in the very next breath he refers to civil rights icon Martin Luther King as “Martin Luther Coon.”
