There is nothing more exhilarating than being shot at and missed.

Winston Churchill said that. He fought in the Boer War at or near the beginning of the 20th century.
It was Churchill who ordered the bombing of Dresden. That was needless slaughter and a war crime.

Why was it a war crime? Be specific.

I live in a retirement community off of Hilton Head Island. One of my neighbors flew with the Mighty Eighth and took part in the Dresden raids in March, 1945. They were told, he said, that the bombing of Dresden would be revenge for the bombing of Coventry in 1940. They had no specific military target just the city itself. They dropped incendiary bombs to maximize the slaughter.
I could tell that he felt that with the end of the war in Europe nearly in sight that the combined raids of the RAF and the 8th on that city made no sense. To hammer that point down , he produced a book entitled "Ash Wednesday" written by an American pilot who took part in the raids.
That pilot/author too states it amounted to useless slaughter.

I know for sure that I have one. I would have drowned in a lake at the age of two had the angel not come and told me to turn around and go back. I tried to see it but it told me not to look up, to not try to see it, to turn around and go back. A very audible voice came from above me. At two years old I didn't even know about God but He sure knew about me! In fact, He sent an angel several times when my very life was in terrible danger. And it was always just in time.

Dear Confused:

I think Churchill remembered the Blitz and the people of London who were lost.

In order to win ANY war you must be more vicious than your enemy . . . and it holds true today!

Yes I have experienced this with my son who was in a coma after a car accident for one week and then the Lord brought him out of the coma and gave him back to his mother and I for exactly four years. I also experienced this with my late wife as she fought against an angel and didn't want to go and she was allowed to stay for one week after she had her argument with an angelic being.

Hey Bomb, I have been taught that angels are there for us, but I just can't understand why some of us get protection when I know that there are people more willing and able to help mankind then me are gone. I was in a car accident on the expressway where my car was spinning around and got out of it without a scratch. I was on my way to Church that day. Then I heard on a Christian radio program about a young Christian man with a 4.0 in college was studying to be a doctor, when asked what were his plans, he said he wanted to go to Africa and work among those with hiv. He passed away from leukemia before he was able to go. That is very confusing to me, BUT I know that God is good and loving, it's just hard to understand His ways.

If you could understand the mind of God, you would be equal to Him. God's ways are not our ways. Our wisdom is foolishness to Him. Personally, I believe that God and His angels intervene only when someone who has something to do that is part of God's plans is in danger. After all, all human suffering is the result of sin. It is a price we all have to pay.

And then there was Hitler. Fate could have struck him down on countless occasions before he rose to power.
Sometimes I wonder if there is a balance between the forces of light and the forces of darkness....like they take turns
playing a giant board game and we're mere pieces. An example: George Washington survived numerous close calls before
the Revolutionary War. So if light protected George, dark protected Adolph.
On our level, darkness struck down a much admired father of three when a tree fell on him while angels protected a young person in an auto crash who would go on to become a gifted doctor.
Now think of this going on everywhere at the same time in nanoseconds.

Certain people don't like to talk about Jesus, and they change the subject.
