Far Away From The " Stupor Bowl "

Wolf counselor Loc: Heart of Texas

It's near to impossible for me to sit in front of a TV for the purpose of watching a football game.

That includes 🏀, ⚾, and ⚽.

Sundays are especially holy to me, yet I rarely spend time on a Sunday, sitting in a ⛪.

My church is the Texas Hill country and the congregation is made up of the wild life that lives here.

My church is also inhabited by a true to life angel.

And she just happens to be my wife.

We have lived in and loved this wonderful paradise together for more than thirty years.

I've been working a long term contract in Houston and when I left there yesterday the city was in full "stupor bowl" mode with events and media pomp.

I took hiway 290 west out of Houston to Brenham and then 36 north.

Once I got past Brenham, the skies opened up and there was no trace of the city left in sight.

The road home from there is so familiar to me and every little town I passed through was like a brief visit with an old friend.

Every little farmhouse, cow pasture, creek crossing and stand of trees seem to wave at my passing and knew that I was on my way home.

I'll be off duty for seven days and tomorrow morning we will take the four wheelers up to the camp at Sweetwater Creek.

This time of year, most of the trees are bare and there isn't much green foliage, but there remains a natural beauty in this land.

On our last visit we found two fledgling red tail hawks in a nest at a place we call Sunset Bluff.

We always hike to the bluff .

The area is pristine and quite rugged so we never take the four wheelers.

This weekend, sports fans will be cheering their team for a couple of hours of enjoyment.

But here, the enjoyment never ends and every hour of both day and night is complete with adventure, beauty and profound peace.

Have a good weekend my friends.

May God's peace be with you all.

Reminds me of my fond memories in South Texas, San Antonio. Hemisfair in 1968.. water skiing on Canyon Lake, fishing on Padre Island, rode a ferry across the inner coastal canal. Fine times in good ol' Texas.

Your post was quite refreshing. It's so nice to hear of someone who can appreciate natural beauty rather than loud-mouthed screaming. I can see no excitement if one isn't involved physically in a game but celebrate by stuffing their guts. I'm grateful for one like you. So glad you had a memorable weekend.
