Matthew chapter 17

Verse 1

Peter, James, and John were the disciples selected to accompany Jesus when He prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. Peter and John would author books in the bible. Matthew would be the only other disciple to write.

Verse 2 - 5

Christ has been transfigured. Moses and Elijah also appeared with Him, although their lives were thousands of years ago. Moses and Elijah represent the law and the prophets. You cannot understand the bible without reading the Torah and the prophets of the old testament. We think we are saved while ignoring every sermon Christ preached, parable He taught, and miracle He performed

Verse 6 - 9

The transfiguration is over. This happened over 2,000 years ago. In the eyes of God it is like two days. One day the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of God.


Verse 10 - 13

John came in the spirit of Elijah. A prophet in the spirit of Elijah will stand for God’s word against deceived minds, even if it cost his life.

Verse 14 - 21

This was a powerful demon. He tried to destroy his host. Where would he live if his host perished? We have powerful demonic forces deceiving the minds of the American people. They must be deceived because they expect others to value their lives while if they valued their own lives they would get out of the street when they saw a car coming.

Verse 22 & 23

This is the second time Jesus warns of His upcoming death.

Verse 24 & 25

Jesus knew of the conversation and asks Peter a question. God doesn’t send beggars. If organized religion knew who He is, they would follow Him instead of trying to lead others to a Christ they never followed. Christ didn’t give the great commission to the Pharisees.

Verse 26 & 27

Either Jesus made coins appear in the fishes mouth or God had a man drop to coins in the water, then had a fish swallow the coins. Later God had the same fish bite the hook Peter was using. Either way it is more power than we can define.
