Matthew chapter 16

Verse 1 - 4

You will get no proof from God on a scale that all can see. To believers no proof is necessary but to non-believers no proof is possible. To those that don’t believe in God, I think God has a better reason not to believe in you. You were born after 1900. You probably won’t live 100 years. This creation is all the we need. We have over a trillion cells in our body. Yet, each cell does more business transactions than most small towns in this country. To see how God works with man, you have to read the old testament.

Verse 5 - 12

What is leaven? It is like yeast. When mixed with flour it changes the shape of the dough. The leaven of the Pharisees are the ideas foreign to God’s word. We think we can have gay Christians. Even though Leviticus 18:22 tells us God is disgusted by homosexuals. We have murdered nearly 60 million children before they could take their first breath. Even though Proverbs 6:17 says God hates the shedding of innocent blood. You can not get more innocent than an unborn child. They haven’t done anything to anybody.

Verse 13 & 14

These scriptures illustrate how God appeals to intellect while satan appeals to emotion. What people say is always incorrect. They don’t tell you what they learned from experience. They tell you what somebody told them.

Verse 15 - 17

Peter is the only man besides Jesus to walk on water. He saw Jesus feed a multitude with a meal meant for a small boy. He saw Jesus heal diseases and cast out devils. He had been taught that God would send a special someone. All the evidence pointed to the fact that Jesus is that man.

Verse 18 - 20

At Peter’s first sermon the church had 3,000 people join. Acts 2:41 It started with Peter. Satan used everything in his power to block these ideas. He will fail. Those he can deceive ruin their own lives. He is still at work. Jesus prepared His disciples for persecution. Now we kill for Christ instead of getting killed for Christ.

Verse 21 & 22

Although everything Jesus said would happen did happen, Peter loves Jesus and doesn’t want this to happen. Peter wanted everyone to love the Jesus he knew.

Verse 23

Jesus doesn’t say anything to Peter. Satan is using Peter’s emotions to rebuke Christ. When satan is rebuked, he leaves.

Verse 24

The same thing is said in Mark and Luke. Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the would go free? No, there is a cross for everyone, and there is a cross for me

Verse 25

Many people who think they are saved now will get a rude awakening.

Verse 26 - 28

All of our material possessions will be useless when Christ returns. Verse 28 will be fulfilled in the next chapter.
