Matthew chapter 15

Verse 1

Those in organized religion didn’t like Jesus and thought their understanding of scripture made them right and Jesus wrong. You will be treated badly if you teach truth. Read John 15:18 - 25.

Verse 2

This is only in Matthew and Mark. The traditions of man make the word of God have no effect. In the movie “Trading Places” Eddie Murphy plays an exchange student who before he eats beef jerky says, “beef jerky time”. This particular tradition was like beef jerky time on steroids. They washed like a surgeon and washed pots, cups, and tables. They felt this made them more holy than those that didn’t.

Verse 3 - 6

To make money the Sanhedrin had a rule that instead of taking care of your aging parents, you could make a small donation to the church and keep the rest of the money.

Verse 7 - 9

This is in Isaiah 29:13. The key part of this passage are the words, “in vain they worship.”. Worship without obedience is a waste of time.

Verse 10 & 11

God appeals to intellect.

Verse 12 - 14

Let them alone. The saddest thing about blind leading blind is knowing the one being led has no way of knowing the one leading is blind also until they fall in a ditch.

Verse 15 - 20

I like smothered pork chops. The bible says pigs are unclean. Nobody cares. But if I say the wrong thing to your wife, mother, or daughter we will have a problem. It is not what goes in the mouth that defiles us, it is what comes out.

Verse 21 - 28

Jesus walked fifty miles for this purpose. In Mark she is Greek. The account is in the seventh chapter of Mark.

Verse 29 - 31

Jesus had compassion. If churches had compassion, they would learn before they tried to teach. Who benefits? With Jesus and His followers, the people. With religion, the church.

Verse 32 - 39

This is the second miraculous feeding.
