Today in 1980, President Reagan was shot.
In 1870, the 15th Amendment giving blacks the right to vote was formally ratified. Blacks overwhelmingly joined the Republican Party.

Then, just under 100 years later,, Pres. Linden B. Johnson re directed their loyalty to the D party by using the government to divert tax money to those of African descent. Something for nothing, except your vote.....and a little piece of your soul. Yet , so terrible was his handling of the Vietnamese war, not even that could save his presidency making him utterly unelectable at the end of his term.....

A lot of people don't realize that JFK disliked Johnson, but was forced to accept him as a VP as the price of support from the Dems left wing.

They DSPISED each other! Not the least of which was the murder of a Johnson political opponent in TX being committed by a Johnson Ranch foreman, who got off with the charge scott free. Johnson hating the man he saw as a shanty Irish catholic deserving only of a good thrashing. Johnson being a good Southern Baptist and all.... It was widely assumed in TX that Johnson had hired the hit on Kennedy immediately in the aftermath. A terrible time indeed.. A subject mentioned in the move "Shooter" obliquely.....
