According to Breitbart and CATO Trump had nothing to do with it.
Dan Mitchell, a scholar at the Cato Institute, told PolitiFact,
“Considering that Trump has not enacted any fiscal legislation, it is a bit of a stretch for him to take credit for any changes in debt levels.” He added, “Debt levels go up and down in the short run based on independent factors such as quarterly tax payments and predetermined expenditure patterns.”http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/02/27/politifact-says-trump-debt-reduction-statement-correct-despite-labelling-mostly-false/

That begs the question; "Did the same cause the market to soar since Trump won the election"?

No, because the market has continued increasing at the same rate it has since June '16.

PolitiFact is reporting on information they have from the Cato think tank. So your observation is irrelevant. Before you reply, be aware that the Cato Institute is robustly right-wing.

Leaving aside the fact that Trump has not yet passed a budget, Obama came into office in the earliest days of the great recession. Obama's budget came in considerably BETTER than projections by economists. I recall a prediction that the budget could be $1 trillion in deficit. So, you're cherry picking your data; a comparison that, far from accounting for differing circumstances, is consciously skewed to give Trump credit for something upon which he had no influence.
