Some friends of mine visited Ireland around St. Patrick's day and they kept looking around and didn't see any restaurants or pubs advertising corned beef and cabbage for dinner. So they started asking where they could find some and the people looked at them like they had just landed from another planet. They had never heard of corned beef and cabbage over there. I think that it is an Irish American dish not sure though.
