Remembering A Real 'Woman's Woman'.

Larry the Legend Loc: Not hiding in Milton

These pathetic feminists of today have no idea what it is to be on the wrong end of the equality fight. One who most certainly does have first hand experience being the underdog in a fight for equality is Susan Brownell Anthony, who died on this day in 1906 at the age of 86.

She was inspired to fight for women’s rights while campaigning against alcohol. She was denied a chance to speak at a temperance convention because she was a woman. Anthony later realized that no one would take women in politics seriously unless they had the right to vote. In this she was tireless in her efforts, giving speeches around the country to convince others to support a woman’s right to vote. She even took matters into her own hands in 1872 when she voted in the presidential election illegally. She was arrested and tried unsuccessfully to fight the charges and ended up being fined $100 (nearly $2000 in 2017 currency) – a fine she never paid.

It wasn’t until 1920, 14 years after her death, that the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving all adult women the right to vote, was passed. In recognition of her dedication and hard work, the U.S. Treasury Department put Anthony’s portrait on one dollar coins in 1979, making her the first woman to be so honored.

Quotes

"We throw to the winds the old dogma that governments can give rights. Before governments were organized, no one denies that each individual possessed the right to protect his own life, liberty and property."

"I beg you to speak of Woman as you do of the Negro, speak of her as a human being, as a citizen of the United States, as a half of the people in whose hands lies the destiny of this Nation."

"The worst enemy women have is in the pulpit."

"I will cut off this right arm of mine before I will ask for the ballot for the Negro and not for the woman."

"Being persons, then, women are citizens; and no state has a right to make any new law, or to enforce any old law, that shall abridge their privileges or immunities."

"What you should do is to say to outsiders that a Christian has neither more nor less rights in our association than an atheist."

"There is not a woman born who desires to eat the bread of dependence."

"The only question left to be settled now is: Are women persons? And I hardly believe any of our opponents will have the hardihood to say they are not."
