The Poet: Maya Angelou, “Alone”

“Alone”
“Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home,
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone.
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong,
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone,
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
There are some millionaires
With money they can't use,
Their wives run round like banshees,
Their children sing the blues.
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone,
But nobody,
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone,
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know...
Storm clouds are gathering,
The wind is gonna blow.
The race of man is suffering,
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody,
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone,
Nobody, but nobody,
Can make it out here alone.”

I agree we can not make it alone, but one just has to realize we are never alone, in the woods, by the sea on top of a mountain, we are never alone. The storm may be necessary to clear the air and start anew, a welcoming new beginning.
Thank you Pafret

The World Is Too Much With Us
By William Wordsworth
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers;—
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune;
It moves us not. Great God! I’d rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathèd horn.

Beautiful is the vision of ones never alone~~
I have had this one for well, a couple years , framed and in my office~
Never Alone
I feel you in the morning
When at first I awake
Your thought is with me
With each decision I make
You'd been around forever
Since the first breath I took
Now I have to go on alone
But for love, I need not look
Cause by what you bestowed
In our short time together
Will last in my heart
Forever and ever
Although you've left
And now walk above
I'm never alone
I'm wrapped in your love
Enjoy now your long waited reward
Feel peace that your love continues on
What was taught to me, will be taught to mine
Cause you live on in me even after you've gone
I am not alone....

Pafret I like your choices of author's...but do not despair...
snip,
"I've heard it said the world is evil. But they are wrong...
for I have known its people...watched them die to save a freedom, bleed to save a life...spend of themselves to stem disaster, of their wealth to ease distress...and I have watched them live, love and labor...watched them hope, dream and pray, side by side.

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.
May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.
May your rivers flow without end,
Meandering through pastoral valleys tinkling with bells,
Past temples and castles and poets’ towers into a dark primeval forest where tigers belch and monkeys howl,
Through miasmal and mysterious swamps and down into a desert of red rock, blue mesas, domes and pinnacles and grottos of endless stone, and down again into a deep vast ancient unknown chasm where bars of sunlight blaze on profiled cliffs,
Where deer walk across the white sand beaches,
Where storms come and go as lightning clangs upon the high crags,
Where something strange and more beautiful and more full of wonder than your deepest dreams waits for you – beyond that next turning of the canyon walls.”
- Edward Abbey

I'll never be lonely
my life's love is beside me
although my children are far away
and seem to be farther every day
I'll never be lonely
my life's love is beside me
and when we are gone
we will be together,just as one
and it will be written on our stone
I'll never be lonely
(My poor attempt at poetry)
There is comfort in being alone
especially when safe at home
with a nice cup of tea
just my own thoughts and me
yes,there is comfort being alone
There is a lesson in being alone
in that space, many great minds have grown
you are you,no one else
just be true to yourself
yes,there is a lesson in being alone
(Ms Moem)

Not poor attempt !!!! Perfect it is, spoken from your heart~<
How can that ever be wrong??
I also like Ms. Moem's poem as well....
Ah to be loved having love itself in grace
'Tis this time in life which bestows so much
We learn our hearts content..
Do we faulter in life's action or are we as it should be
We are but the expression in living love itself
Where there is your love there is llife itself...
Mine back to you....❣️

Is it my imagination or are these poetry posts bringing out the civil part of our natures?

reading poetry is way far better
than arguing politics
and it don't make you mad

I believe so and is that not so much better!!
