McLean, Texas: THIS TRAGIC STORY IS COMING TO PRESS AS I WRITE IT!
Last night on the Panhandle of Texas. A local Cowboy, CODY CROCKETT of Mclean, TX (population 800) and his Girlfriend, SYDNEY WALLACE along with a third person, Sloan Everett were working together to save their animals and their home. During this time they were caught off guard by the blaze being pushed by 50+ MPH winds.
Firefighters were able to find Cody's Horse, then Cody and transport him to a local hospital, where he sadly passed away this morning. They continued to search the scene and found Sydney. Details regarding Sloan Everett, he is being referred to as a family friend by local media are still coming out These details are being posted by the family, not by official media sources.
Judge Richard Peet said the trio died while trying to save cattle, one from smoke inhalation and two from burns. The first of the three died at 10 p.m., according to Sandi Martin, Gray Countyâs Emergency Management Coordinator, while the two burn victims were airlifted to Amarillo and Lubbock but did not survive.
During the same blaze, two local Firefighters were also injured. This will be a devastating loss for this community. Sydney was a nurse at BSA Health System in Amarillo, TX.
Please keep Sydney Wallace's family in your prayers as they go through the trials of this week along with Cody Crockett family as they are all coming to terms with this loss, as well as Sloan Everett's family. These folks died protecting life and property..
This is so sad. The cowboy's job is to take care of his/her animals, land, family, friends, and community. Please pray for these people, and their families.

Thoughts and prayers to the families of this beautiful couple and their cohort. May they rest in peace and forever ride the great prairies of heaven.
God Bless...
There is a special star in Heaven for Texas.

How terribly, terribly sad. Having read about the ranching profession, and its culture, whenever an opportunity was presented, I learned that prairie fires were one of the most feared encounters. Same goes for forest fires! I can think of nothing so frightening as having a fire bearing down, for both man and animal. My heart goes out to those young people who perished, and their families.
Something I learned when reading about life on the range, and may be something to keep in mind when on an open prairie; always have matches or other means of starting a fire on hand, a fire can then be started, if needed, to burn an island of safety.
R.I.P., my fellow Texans.
Happy trails little brother and friends . God bless you and your families . Your heroic deeds witnessed by the Almighty . I hang my head in prayer on bended knee
They should be 'blessed' as they are one of few real Americans left...

These are the real 'Cowboys', the ones that live the life. My heart and prayers go out to all the loved one's, both family and friends and to all the cowboys who face this ongoing danger every year. God bless all!

I have to feel sorry for these kids and the humanist way they were behaving.
I have a story about an old man who was vainly trying to save his home and grounds and lost all. His story is that he was trying to disc the ground on the fire side of the house to save it with the fire about 6 or 7 miles away when the wind shifted about 90 degrees and the fire was upon him almost before he could get into a wheat field to avoid the fire. Wind was about 70 miles mph when that happened. The house, grounds, trophies for show cattle totaling over a million dollars all went up in smoke and about 80 cattle went with them. That old man had his family and most of his cattle moved to safety but just couldn't save his house.
This man was caught in a fire that burned about 650,000 acres in one county.
