How is it close to the toilet bowl ? There is no question the liberals has been dead for 40 years. By the 1980's the formerly working mans party stood by in silence as the Republicans smashed the labor movement that had suffered hundreds killed and thousands wounded until labor was emancipated with the Wagner Act of 1935 by 2000 the labor movement in the private sector was dead the 2008 financial collapse should have seen a resurgence of democracy but it was not to be and the corporate state is more powerful than ever with the election of the narcisistic egomaniac who has chosen anti environmental, anti public school, anti labor, anti Anthropological climate change, Goldman Sachs, and other assorted billionaires to his cabinet. In 2000 my late mother commenting on the rapid move to the right in America said change will only come when the people can't take it any more. Major reform arrived in the 1930 when the people couldn't take it any more and revolution was stirring and the economic elites acquiesced . It seems to me we have come full circle back to a new gilded age and we can see reform and regulation does not work the power of the moneyed class will always find ways around the rules and regulations.

Seeing as we are on the cusp of another recession, I will watch with interest who Trump will blame for the mess about to hit us by 2018. Also, seeing as every Republican president since 1901 has left office with the country in recession I will think it close to a miracle if Trump doesn't do the same as all of his GOP predecessors.

Get you history books out The Democratic party had been considered to be the party of the working man and the Republican party had been the party of big business since the gilded age of the robber barons of the late 19th century. The progressive era began in 1892 with the founding of the Peoples party them merged into the democratic party in 1896 presidential election and lasted until 1920 and bringing mild reform With the advent of the great depression the movement too off again with major reforms that were manifest in the New Deal. The Vietnam war and the protestors, Civil Rights Act, and other movements of the 1960's produced a back lash that ended the progressive movement and was reflected in Senator McGovern's landslide loss to Richard Nixon in 1972. The modern conservative movement began to take over and the right was resurrected with the election of Ronald Reagan and his trickle down economics which began peeling away away the New Deal and instructing the regulators to not regulate while the regulations began being peeled away. The result was the S&L collapse the World com, Enron scandals. the dot com bust and culminating in the abys of the 2008 collapse. The Democratic party abandoned labor by the early 1980's thinking they didn't have to worry about labor they had their money and votes because they had no choice that they needed to become more business friendly and go after their share of the wall street cash F**k labor Business gave 10 times as much so the Democrats moved right causing Republicans to move further to the right which in turn caused the D's to move further to the right and so on until the R's moved so far to the right they fell off a cliff. Labor gave up on the D's and went for Trumps populist message designed to turn the rust belt red since the D's were doing nothing to stop the bleeding of jobs to places like China

The base of the D's screamed in the last election but the DNC was deaf and in-responsive so labor gave up and voted for the con man who would make a good used car salesman
