Phoenix Won’t Become Sanctuary City for Illegals

The Phoenix City Council voted Wednesday to turn down the efforts of petitioners who wanted the Arizona city to become a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. In a 7-2 final vote, the council put an end to hours of vigorous debate, inspiring chants of “shame on you” from the gathered activists.
City officials were sympathetic to the petition, but even Democrats like Mayor Greg Stanton opposed the policy request from the standpoint of the law. Arizona passed a law in 2010 that prevents any city from implementing the sanctuary policies seen in other parts of the country. And while the courts have struck down some elements of the law, Stanton and other city council members said Phoenix could not refuse to comply with federal immigration authorities without breaking the remaining portions.
Across the country, a different scene is playing out in New Jersey. Although the state is governed by a decidedly Pro-Trump Republican in Chris Christie, Democratic lawmakers in the Garden State are trying to pass legislation that would protect sanctuary cities from the president’s defunding threats. While some in the assembly put their political muscle behind a bill that would reimburse cities that lose their federal funding, other Democrats rallied around a piece of legislation that would designate New Jersey a “sanctuary state.”
“We are putting President Trump and his administration on notice,” said Assemblyman John Wisniewski. “New Jersey will not be a ‘willing partner’ to the unjustified and inhumane deportations of our neighbors and friends.”

The New Jersey measures have little chance of passing, given GOP resistance and Gov. Chris Christie’s veto threat, said Ross Baker, a Rutgers University professor of political science.
“It’s more of a gesture to the immigrant community,” Baker told Fox News. “It’s a message to them that they would be protected against hypothetical actions by the federal government.”
It seems hard to believe, but this is the kind of nonsense we’re seeing in more and more jurisdictions around the country. Oh, you guys go ahead and violate federal law. We’ll protect you. We’ll give you our money from over here. You just keep on doing what you’re doing and we’ll pick up the tab.
Hopefully, New Jersey, Phoenix, and other cities and states will maintain some semblance of reason in the face of this liberal insanity.

I am so proud of Phoenix!!!!, now if we can knock some sense into these other States, to do as Phoenix is doing. I pray that they will.

I live in that area . If the State Government had not taken legal action , the city of Pheonix would not have made the effort to change.
