P. J. O'Rourke said: "Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power." Physical ills come and go, such as alcohol, drugs, sickness and the like. What never loses steam; what is forever a part of humanity, is ignorance. Ignorance is not a disability, it is a deliberate choosing not to learn. And if it is not deliberate on the part of the pupil, it is deliberate on the part of one who is teaching. There is no ignorance in the same span as knowledge. It's unfortunate that we have a school system that doesn't push for excellence, but rather pushes to move you to the next level, regardless of your ability. At a recent speech, retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor said: "Less than one-third of eighth-graders can identify the historical purpose of the Declaration of Independence, and it's right there in the name...The more I read and the more I listen, the more apparent it is that our society suffers from an alarming degree of public ignorance...If there is a single child not learning about civics or not being exposed to what they must do as citizens, then all our lives are poorer for that." She is dead on in her assessment of American students. School is the beginning of knowledge. We put kids in school so that they can become well-rounded human beings. This well-roundedness assures that when they grow up, they will make informed decisions when voting. But the abject failure of our public schools has created a generation of rubes. Seniors in high school can tell you about global warming and voter suppression, but they can't tell you who is on the Supreme Court. High schools have become public indoctrination centers, transforming kids into miniature Liberals. Whenever Conservatives try to make schools better by offering vouchers and choice, the Democrats shut it down. The Left knows that if we turn out truly educated, well-rounded graduates, they will never win an election ever again. So to protect their own interests, they keep schools down, squishing them underneath the government boot. Knowledge makes a Conservative. Ignorance makes a Liberal. So long as we have no power to educate children in a better way, we will continue to graduate ignorant citizens.

It has been shown time & again, that the better informed a person is, the more likely he is to vote Republican.

Trump loves the uneducated.
He will bring back shovel ready jobs for his base and bring in bull dozers to replace them.

Sorry to disagree with you CL, but hadn't you noticed that the political parties are interchangable? Whether you vote for Repoblicrat or Demopublican, although the rhetoric might be different, the steady decline continues at an ever increasing rate.

Remember when a wife could stay home and properly raise the children, keeping an eye on the schools to make sure her kids really got a good education? But then as inflation continued to reduce the value of her husband's pay, she had to go to work so they could continue to live a reasonably decent life.

Then the school destroyers were able to gradually do their work, so that your kids not only didn't learn what they should, rather they were taught things that would help to bring down what the whole world considered the "Country with Golden Streets", not because the streets were really gold but because of the freedom to be the best you could be without government agents blocking your evey move. That my father heard about and emigrated to for a better life. In fact people from all over came to this country which used to be called the "FREE WORLD". Bet many of you under forty never heard that phrase. They came legally (not as they do today), to get the chance of a better life than the "old country" could offer.

No more, not since the 1960s. Now they come for "FREE STUFF". And why does our Govt. encourage them? Because our country is no longer "our country", it is now an occupied land, and the occupiers need to destroy any vestige of hope and freedom, or the one world slave kingdom they want will be destroyed before it can really get established.

WAKE UP, it is almost too late.

Yes I agree with you. The schools are more concerned about teaching Socialism than reading , Writing and Math.. The dumber the kids are the easier it is !

At this time people will have to control those bull dozers and other equipment. Those shovel ready jobs never appeared. They were just a figment of Obama's imagination.

Most humans want other sources because we care about the planet. Coal is obsolete.
