According to a libertyalliance.com headline: "A Massachusetts Sheriff Is Offering President-Elect Trump His Inmates to Build the Proposed Wall Along the Mexican Border". Wow! Last I heard, slavery was made illegal in the United States many, many years ago.

Here's a thought. What if, instead of paying a contractor to build the wall at Federally mandated wage levels (which, by the way, are outrageously expensive), just offer these convicts half that amount and see if they're interested. Heck, that might even fly.. As an aside, if I were being locked up in a cage 24 hours a day and the head jailer came to me with the order that I was going to provide the labor needed to build a wall or anything else, I'm afraid he probably wouldn't like my answer. Ask, and offer remuneration, and ye may receive. Demand, and ye get the finger...

Here's the deal... Right now convicts are appointed to road detail to clean up certain highways. Question: Is this slavery? not all convicts are black or white so there is no issue of racism there. Just giving convicts the sense of normalcy, what ever that is according to them.

You must understand that convicts who are locked up still need the sense of purpose, again, whatever that is to them. I see no problem asking for volunteers for outside work details if they want it. That is not slavery. Slavery is what the work gangs of the old south used too be, very little rest, sun up to sun down continuous hard laboring.

Today's criminal knows no such thing as hard labor. I say, get them out there and do some payback for whatever they did to put themselves in their position.

If what we know of Trump is true, then a more likely scenario is that he will contract to have the wall built, then, finding that its impact on illegal immigration is negligible, decide that the workers were at fault and refuse to pay them.

I'm always amazed at how liberals can conclude the negative when it comes to something they are opposed to. I think it's counterproductive to start assuming things that far ahead. I actually think the more likely scenario might be a decision to start enforcing some existing laws instead of filing suit against local law enforcement that tries to enforce existing laws such as in the case of Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Another thought. Have all the illegals that are in jails or holding facilities build the wall and pay them minimum wage. If they escape across the border who cares.

Why not enlist all the able-bodied liberal welfare bums, too - and they can help rebuild the infrastructure that was allowed to decay.

What makes you think they would go South when they escape? It seems more likely they might use their freedom to go north, thereby getting a "get out of jail free" card.

Interesting thought. Since the Mexicans are sending their 'criminals and rapists' to us, why not return the favor? A little lax on the guard routine and bingo! No more inmates to feed, clothe and house. We could always refuse to take them back....

No guarantees but have guards just watch the northern escape route.

Slavery my ass ,, you've probably never been locked up .. I speak from personal experience ,, when offered to opportunity to work outside under a big blue sky and do something beside sit in a pod or cell all day you will gladly take that option and reduce your time of sentence ,, that's your pay and it is worth every drop of sweat !

You do not need to pay them (per say) when you volunteer for work details you are given " good Time " extra time off sentence .
