Secular during Winter Holidays

I'm often asked questions about my handling of the winter holidays from the perspective of an atheist.

My approach is to do what I like and feel good about and avoid the bs parts as comfortably and politely as possible.

With a large, devotedly Christian, extended family some awkwardness is bound to arise. Every family has an asshole or two. If you don't know who it is in your family, careful! Could be you, yourself!

Have fun with your friends, stay warm and drive carefully. We Christians do not demand that you say Merry Christmas, or kneel before the manger, as long as you do not make any effort to force us to not celebrate the birth of Christ in our religious fashion.

Within every Christian family every member is a sinner who thankfully celebrates the Birth of Christ but I don't recall that being a sinner brands them as an AH. There are only two types of sinners, those who seek forgiveness and those who do not and no one can force anyone else to seek God's forgiveness anymore than you can force someone to love you.

I was thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you are. We haven't heard from you in awhile. Trust all is well.

Wasn't it just yesterday I was a kid with "a dip in my hip and a glide in my stride" and yet today so many friends are old and some no longer around and more are getting gravely ill with age. Me? When I'm sitting in my recliner, reading, watching TV, my 14 year old Springer Spaniel, Morgan, by my side, my wonderful wife of 54 years sitting quietly within reach, etc., I'm 25 years old in both mind and body. The second I begin to try and stand up I immediately gain well over 50 years and it makes me laugh at myself. Life is good.
