Is it possible for us to discuss this subject without insulting each other ? I am interested in everyone's opinion about what is going to happen to medical care and coverage if ObamaCare is repealed and if the coming administration follows through on the plans to change Medicare. What is your opinion ? What is your prediction. I saw an article that Medicare premiums deducted from one's social security are going to double, and may take as much as 55% of one's social security. I don't know the truth in this prediction, and I don't suppose any of the rest of us do, either. But do you think medical care costs are going to go up ?

Please cut the insults and let's have a serious discussion.

Granted, this is from a liberal source, but let's look past that and not automatically reject the ideas in it. What will the political effect be on the administration if 40 or 50 million seniors see their Medicare premiums doiuble ?

Would you pleaase elaborate on "the several billion Obama removed to kick start Obama Care" ? I really don't know what you mean unless you explain that more clearly.

The bigger concern for me right now is the economy collapsing before Trump has time to do the things he has promised. Although there is now a big sense of a light at the end of the tunnel and Trump has God on his side, unless he blow's it, and if God is with us, who can be against us?

Richard here are the figures:

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the payment cuts in Medicare include:

A $260 billion payment cut for hospital services.
A $39 billion payment cut for skilled nursing services.
A $17 billion payment cut for hospice services.
A $66 billion payment cut for home health services.
A $33 billion payment cut for all other services.
A $156 billion cut in payment rates in Medicare Advantage (MA); $156 billion is before considering interactions with other provisions. The House Ways and Means Committee was able to include interactions with other provisions, estimating the cuts to MA to be even higher, coming in at $308 billion.
$56 billion in cuts for disproportionate share hospital (DSH) payments.* DSH payments go to hospitals that serve a large number of low-income patients.
$114 billion in other provisions pertaining to Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP* (does not include coverage-related provisions).

*Subtract $25 billion total between DSH payments and other provisions for spending that was cut from Medicaid and CHIP.

Thanks for the figures about the cuts. There won't be much left if and after these cuts take place. I suspect that some states such as my own (California) will set up their own versions of Medicare.

Does not "the right to life, liberty and the pursuits of happiness" imply that if the federal government can save people's lives through providing medical care that people have a right to life-saving medical care ? Or do you think not ?

The largest voting block in this country is seniors over the age of 62. No one is going to touch Medicare, or the government will be confronted with unhappy elderly citizens carrying pitchforks and torches. The same is true of Social Security. If you think BLM is ugly, wait until the White House get surrounded with pissed off old people Good luck trying.

I think you are correct here. The "Gray Panthers" will come out in hoards. I am sure social security is a "third rail" subject. I have a feeling that Medicare will be reduced and screwed over, and then remedied quickly. Who knows ?

TAPPER: “One of the concerns about health care and how you pay for it — one third of the funding comes from cuts to Medicare.”

BARACK OBAMA: “Right.”

TAPPER: “A lot of times, as you know, what happens in Congress is somebody will do something bold and then Congress, close to election season, will undo it.”

OBAMA: “Right.”

TAPPER: “You saw that with the ‘doc fix’.”

OBAMA: “Right.”

TAPPER: “Are you willing to pledge that whatever cuts in Medicare are being made to fund health insurance, one third of it, that you will veto anything that tries to undo that?”

OBAMA: “Yes. I actually have said that it is important for us to make sure this thing is deficit neutral, without tricks. I said I wouldn’t sign a bill that didn’t meet that criteria.”

So where is this huge saving? Am sure you remember the $2500 savings!

They will not rise -- at least Medicare costs won't -- if there is no Medicare, which is what the incoming regime appears to want. I have my VA medical benfits, but they are even trying to get rid of these. Do you recall Trump repeatedly saying "We are going to take care of our vets" ? He must have meant dog and cat doctors.

Explain how he said no Medicare would be available! Now I do remember where he said and we'll take care of our Veterans' the way they should be.
