I am often baffled by the lack of communication between liberals and conservatives. The two world views often seem to contradict each other and we seem to speak different languages. It is this lack of common language that often leads to such nasty exchanges between the two.
The situation appears to parallel the state of affairs in physics: two theories that each equally well explain reality yet totally contradict each other. The big difference is that the physicist don't call each other nasty names. They know that one theory explains one set of phenomena , while the other explains a different set. Their goal is the unification of those contradictory theories (even if they do need 11 dimensions to do it) and to do that they need to understand and accept both theories.
I don't see politics as any different. Being able to understand both sides is not that hard. It has to do with the complexity of life. You need both theories...liberal and conservative. And you don't have to hate the other theory. Nor it's followers.
Life is so much nicer if not played as a zero sum game and being able to hold contradictory thoughts at the same time allows one to see life that way.
It's why I hope this section works....

Me too....but , I have to say that the Internet has been somewhat of a culprit in this dilemma......most people would never say the things in person that they say to some unknown stranger over the Net.....it's easy to hide behind the computer and vent...there's obviously a lot of that going on........

Well said in a meta physical theory as well..Or at least to me...
Differing parallels but "united" if we stop and remember we are here because we all DO care and regardless of position, it is our intent "to better" our country..
Diversity creates creativity in summation and solutions...It isn't all bad, it enhances our knowledge .......

Liberals and conservatives are both okay, as long as the topic isn't political!

We need to find ways to work together and put Politics aside. By working together, we might figure out ways to make things work to the benefit of all. Become a think-tank to resolve problems we are confronted with on a daily basis. After all, we are all AMERICANS.

Here's how I see it. There is right and wrong. Good and evil. One side recognizes the distinction. The other doesn't. It's that simple.

I think that happens on a daily basis at the lower levels of government like cities and counties. On those levels it's hard to talk about the other side as evil or uninformed because those folks with whom one disagrees are often neighbors one likes and live near. In my city it's hard to tell Republicans from Democrats because they do have to work out the issues confronting constituents and it's not so much about theory as what is practical.

Agreed. The anonymity does seem to bring out the worst in some folks.

I doubt it will be easy as it seems we are a long way from a figuring out how to reconcile the two POVs, but once one gets away from 'theory' it seems Americans are very good at solving particular problems.
I often wonder what would happen if one removed all Ds and Rs from ballots and political ads.

A willingness and application of doing it is a start...If we take ego out of the equation, and accept compromise, neither may like but that effectuate resolution then we can do anything...
Like you said, it is getting there that creates so much indifference...
Don't know what would happen removing all D's and Rs and ads but I sure like it!!..There really is no two party system anymore anyway..
Both parties have been imploding for years, this election cycle showing the worst of worst in the erosion of something so important, to country and it's citizen....They openly played their hand (s) and appalling display of such showing it is they, over us, period..
The shame in politicians and destruction of our voting system a Sham to them!!
Do like your suggestion though..If we ever do get a true Independent party on the books, with traction you can bet the D's and Rs would be petrified...and no limit to their destruction of such...You know, much like they are doing now!!
