How does one get 7 rows of ribbons, without any combat?

How does one get 7 rows of ribbons, without any combat? Oh, she showed up for work most of the time (4 rows), is female (2.5 rows), and possibly a minority (.5 rows). Did I get that right?

Admiral Michelle Howard, USN, is not in command of the US Navy, however, she was recently promoted to Vice Chief of Naval Operations, second in command to the CNO. The selection process leading to her promotion to 4 star rank and her current position, is rather unique in a peace time US Navy. The supposed plan is to eventually promote her to Chief of Naval Operations.

Admiral Howard had command of only one non-capital ship, the USS Rushmore (LSD-47), when she was promoted to Flag rank, which was unique. She eventually received orders as the Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy, thru January 2009. It then appears that Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus mentored her thru one senior billet after another, by-passing other highly qualified combat-trained, more senior Flag Officers. During the process, she received orders to the proper Command and Staff Colleges, in order to prepare her for each new command assignment, Mabus' careful guidance led her to her current billet.

In the last 7 years, Obama has modified the selection process for Flag and General Officer, by ensuring the potential selectee's compliance with his 'Social Experiment On Diversity', as a condition for whether an officer will be considered for promotion to Admiral or General.

If she is also a lesbian it would be another plus for her. Notice, I did not say she is a lesbian as I have no idea.

It appears not especially if you are black. I wonder does this make her a success or a toady. Just wondering what the other blacks on OPP will label her as.

I realized immediately that she was black. A lot of other very senior officers have gotten where they are/were because of color. Where does this all end? A country with no leaders, military or governmental. A Banana Republic!

In Navy terminology those are Geedunk medals. At least back in the day that is what they were called.

Geedunks aboard ship where small spaces with soft ice creme and candy for sale.
She may have spent exorbitant minutes ( maybe 5 or 10 ) standing in line for ice creme
or a snickers bar while doing a float-by in the Mediterranean.

Yeah. She's ready alright. Must be a proud ( You didn't build that ) moment
for both the Pres. and her.

Lets all celebrate while our military is further degraded.

It will take two or three generations to rebuild our military
after what the wannabe fascist in the White House has done to it.

A victim of white racism. The fact that a black woman with no combat command experience is promoted over white AND black male officers who DO have that experience is "progressive."

Eisenhower received 5 stars and never served in combat although he was in the Army during WW1.

I believe he received his 5th Star after the success Operation Overlord. I did not say combat, I said combat command.

Eisenhower was in combat in Washington DC when he fought against the American Veteran Bonus Army insurrection during the great depression. Gen MacArthur was in command, Major Patton led the Horse Cavalry and Major Eisenhower led the infantry in a fixed bayonet charge to clear the vets out of town. The active military had guns, sabres, cannon and other weapons; the vets had bricks and bottles which they threw at the advancing troops. The order was given to thge infantry to don gas masks and gas grenades were thrown which drove the veterans out of their shanty town. Interestingly enough, no shots were fired.

As far as Admiral Howard's combat experience, Gilbert and Sullivan said it well "So stick to your desk and never go to sea and you too may be Admiral of the Queen's Navy"

I believe the Navy is sinking. If the Army can't do anything about Bergdahl, that leaves the Marines, and the Air Force. We can still make war. We need a Trump!

Looks like she has done some sea duty and has been involved in most of the wars we had to offer in since 1982. I count six or seven ships on which she has served. I suppose it is possible that Maybus arranged for the pirates to attack Maersk Alabama three days after she took command of CTF-151, but I don't know that for sure.
