The big labor unions and the democratic party have been in bed together for decades. They have the common goal of lining their own pockets with the money extracted from the average worker, the democrat run government through ever increasing taxes, and the unions through ever increasing membership dues.

Raylan-then they can beg for help from Hillary when Pres. Trump pushes for every State to have Right to Work laws. Unions have ruined industries and some cities in this country and it is time that their usefulness be re-evaluated. We need to start with disbanding all public sector unions starting with the SEIU and progressing from there. The UAW is responsible,in a large measure, for the condition in which Detroit finds itself. Good Luck America !!!

Now you're arguing the egg vs the chicken coming first. As union jobs went overseas, the rate of employment dropped and thus income. The unions priced the workers out of the auto industry, as one example. Other highly unionized industries, such as the steel industry, mining and appliance manufacturing were unable to compete with foreign industries, and those jobs went to other countries.

As jobs leave this country, both union membership and average individual income drops. Of course, union membership fell, because the unions committed suicide by overpricing labor. The income didn't shrink because of workers not being in unions, the income dropped because of the loss of jobs, caused by excessive labor costs, which were caused by unions.

The UAW got exactly what it deserved. I can remember decades ago when the UAW was striking for $32 an hour, and better benefits. The auto workers were making about $29 an hour, and here in the south blue collar workers were making under $8, and living comfortably.

It was predicted by some economists then that the UAW would drive the auto makers overseas. The union bosses were on TV saying that would never happen. Guess they were wrong, huh?
