Actually, we don't know that. Hominids have been around for more than 5 million years. They could have been pretty much any color. The only thing science is pretty sure of is that modern man did live in Africa. However, he also lived in Europe and Asia. Some scientists believe we all originated in Africa but others believe the races evolved separately in different locations. No one can say what color we started out as for certain. But I would think color really only matters to a bigot.

BTW, Jesus was not black. He was a Jew, a Semite, brown like a Safardic Jew or an Arab.

It is my opinion, and others, that the ‘Out of Africa’ myth has its roots in the mainstream academic campaign in the 1990s to remove the concept of race. But, that campaign like all others born from the PC group has only separated people even more. To the point of people actually trying to say or prove that G*d himself is black. Funny in a way, I suppose if you can claim G*d, the creator of everything was white, black, brown or green then you can claim superiority or at least equality with all other races.

It's almost a chicken and egg question. If all men were originally black, and whites evolved after moving to colder climates, we have a problem because primitive man, in the pre-tool using stage, stayed in warmer climes. It is not that likely that they would move out of the 'hood to a less melanin friendly environment, and yet those who stayed in the warmer climates remained in the stone age until their interaction with whites. Does cold weather stimulate intelligence? Apparently not, because the first great civilization was in the Middle East, while both whites and blacks were still living in wattle huts. Advances in agriculture and metallurgy occurred in temperate climates, not hot or cold ones. Why did Africa remain in the stone age while the rest of the world progressed?

I suspect that Africa remained in the stone age for the same reason South America did, they could and still survive. Mesoamerica and the Middle east both developed early high civilizations most likely because their climate allowed for survival with time to devote to more than just surviving. Europe and northern Asia became technological because their climates required technology for survival. Jmo...

Some people think that being made in the image of God deals with the physical likeness as if God has a body of flesh and blood. This is not the case. Jesus tells us that God, in reference to the Father, is spirit (John 4:24) and that spirit does not have flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). Therefore, it cannot be true that we are made in the image of God the Father in the sense that God the Father has a body of flesh and bones.

So then, what does it mean to be made in the image of God? It means that we are made in His likeness in that we have some of the same attributes that God has. For example, God is rational (Isaiah 1:18) and so are we. God can love (John 3:16) and so can we. God can hate (Psalm 5:5, 11:5) and so can we. Because we are made in God's image, we are able to have compassion, mercy, grace, fellowship, friendship, etc. However, as God is all-knowing, we are not. God is ever-present, but we are not.

So, the image of God in us means that we are like Him in some, not all, of His attributes.
