“Fundamentally Transform America”?

Excerpts from two speeches... both by FDR; The first as Governor of NY, March 2nd, 1930:

“..........The doctrine of regulation and legislation by "master minds," in whose judgment and will all the people may gladly and quietly acquiesce, has been too glaringly apparent at Washington during these last ten years. Were it possible to find "master minds" so unselfish, so willing to decide unhesitatingly against their own personal interests or private prejudices, men almost god-like in their ability to hold the scales of Justice with an even hand, such a government might be to the interest of the country, but there are none such on our political horizon, and we cannot expect a complete reversal of all the teachings of history.

Now, to bring about government by oligarchy masquerading as democracy, it is fundamentally essential that practically all authority and control be centralized in our National Government. The individual sovereignty of our States must first be destroyed, except in mere minor matters of legislation. We are safe from the danger of any such departure from the principles on which this country was founded just so long as the individual home rule of the States is scrupulously preserved and fought for whenever it seems in danger.

Thus it will be seen that this "Home Rule" is a most important thing, a most vital thing, if we are to continue along the course on which we have so far progressed with such unprecedented success”.

The second, as president during his 1944 State of The Union address:

“ ....................As our Nation has grown in size and stature, however—as our industrial economy expanded—these political rights proved inadequate to assure us equality in the pursuit of happiness.
We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. “Necessitous men are not free men.” People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.
In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:
 The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the Nation;
 The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
 The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
 The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
 The right of every family to a decent home;
 The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
 The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment; The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being”.

You need go no further than to compare, not just the tone, but the totally different message of these two speeches to see the transformation that a position of great power can inflict on an otherwise rational man. As Governor; FDR represents and stands on, the founding principle of our nation; that a healthy free Democracy depends on a strong Federation, that is--the internal independence of the States to conduct their affairs in the best interest of their citizens own particular desires and needs without the heavy hand of a Federal Gov interfering. In the second speech, after being president for twelve years; he has succumbed to the trappings of being the most powerful man in the world and begins to believe that he is that "master-mind capable of holding the scales of justice with an even hand"; he alluded to in his 1930 speech as NY Governor.

I take no issue with the idea that every individual should have the above enumerated... the question is--is it society's responsibility to provide them, or is it society's responsibility to create the political and economic structure wherein the individual can use his/her own resources to obtain that which they most desire? Apparently the answer is not as obvious as any rational person might think. The political left thinks, and history shows that it has always thought, that it is society's responsibility... and that the brute force of a powerful central government should be used to force the compliance of its citizens--a view that is diametrically opposed to the primary tenets of our Constitution. This is why the political left has for decades been chipping away at the foundation of the Constitution by: attacking it's framers as 'slave owners', or 'old white men'; calling it a 'dead document' meant for another age and no longer applicable, or saying that is an elastic document and should be interpreted in light of the modern world. It is also the reason the left has taken over the education system in our country and is dumbing down our youth by not teaching the true history of the US and the principles of its founding.

Societies constructed on the principles espoused by the left--that society as a whole is responsible for the comfort and well-being of the individual... will, in the end, inflict brutal suffering on its citizens... with mass starvation... imprisonment... torture and murder. A system with a strong central government willing to use its great power to force compliance by its citizens has never lasted longer than a couple of generations and then it collapses under its own weight... but before it does, often times tens of millions of people die.

In the days leading up to his first inauguration our current President announced that "we are five days away from fundamentally transforming America". What did he mean by that? I don't recall anyone asking that question at the time. If we examine what he has done in the ensuing five years of his presidency, we begin to understand what his idea of “Fundamentally Transforming America” is: He tried and failed to get the "Dream Act" passed that would have 'fundamentally' changed the way illegal aliens are treated under the law--they would have become citizens virtually instantly. He did not accept this rejection by congress, instead he issued an executive order essentially bypassing congress, and instituting the major features of his 'Dream Act' by fiat--thereby 'fundamentally' changing the way illegal aliens are legally processed. His 'Carbon Tax' scheme also failed in congress; it would have 'fundamentally' changed the way electric power is produced in America and driven coal mining and coal burning generators out of business. So… his appointed head of the EPA created strict regulations essentially imposing the rules, that congress had rejected... thereby 'fundamentally' changing, again by fiat, the way electric power will be produced in America. Even before he was a candidate for president he said he was in favor of single payer (government) health care. One of the early bills to be introduced in congress in his first term was The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Poll after poll after poll of the American people showed that they did not want it--but Obama insisted and it was passed by congress without a single Republican vote supporting it, and worst of all, it was done using the parliamentary trick of passing it in legislative conference, an outrageous violation of the constitution. And, to no one’s surprise (at least not mine),... it is shaping up to 'FUNDAMENTALLY' change America in a most adverse way ................. I could go on, but you get the idea... I'm sure.

A short list of some of the damage:

The gap between wealthy and poor is the greatest in a century—income for the 1% grew more than 31%, while the incomes of the 99% grew at 0.4%.

The official unemployment rate has been above 7.3% for five years... longest continuously high unemployment rate since the great depression--the real rate of unemployment is greater than 10.5%.

The annualized GDP growth rate has not been above 3% since 2006.

The tax revenues of the Federal Gov are the highest ever--more money for them… less money for us.

The national debt (over $17 trillion) is the highest ever… and continues to mount by almost a $trillion each year.

The median income for families has plummeted by 7.3% since Obama took office--$55,438 in 2007 vs. $51,404 in February 2013.

And on and on and on and on.....................

Conclusion: Obozo is succeeding... he is ‘Fundamentally Transforming America’.

I agree with the conclusion but he didn't do it alone either. He is from a well organized and wealthy political party. Now they're getting even more enlisted from college campus and immigrant service volunteers.

Question is... will the American people rise up and swat this radical gadfly before the shadow of tyranny engulfs them?

I think both FDR and Obama knew just what they were going to put over on the gullible people. They said what they had to say to get elected, and proceeded to put their REAL plans into action immediately after the elections.. The true surprise is the "laying down" of the Republicans in DC. Apparently, it is also their goal.Makes you almost pray for Armageddon.

Yes, the political class is the political class. When an outsider (the Tea Party for example) begins to make inroads into their sanctuary the establishment of either party gets activated to protect its turf, much like the body's immune system fights an intruding bacteria.

Unfortunately, the have-nots, have too much power. Freedom is a far less seductive mistress, than free Obama phones and endless welfare benefits.

You couldn't be more correct.

" A democracy will
continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they
can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury".
-- Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor 1787

Power to please the useless is still power. Who will be our next president? That is an even scarier proposition.

Amen brother.

Whoever steps forward on the Rs side, will expose himself/herself to a full (and continuous) broadside of vitriol from the lib/progressive/socialists/communists/radical denizens of the left.
