Bill O'Fairy has been charged with fudging the truth about his war zone correspondent experience. This is much the same as Brian Williams did that resulted in a 6 month suspension. O'Reilly's excuses are plainly circumvent and should be investigated further by Faux Snooze.

Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly calls Mother Jones report ‘a lie’

By Erik Wemple February 19 at 9:08 PM

Mother Jones dropped this afternoon a long story alleging that Fox News host Bill O’Reilly has his own Brian Williams problem in exaggerating his coverage of conflicts around the globe in a decades-long and peripatetic career. A key line in the story by David Corn and Daniel Schulman reads like this: “>Fox News and O’Reilly did not respond to multiple requests for comment.”

Why not? “Because David Corn is a guttersnipe liar,” O’Reilly told the Erik Wemple Blog tonight. “Is that clear enough? For years he’s been trying to get Fox News. I would never speak to the man about anything at any time. He’s a disgusting piece of garbage.”

Here's the other part of the story

Bill O’Reilly’s humiliating bust: Does Fox News have guts to suspend its own serial exaggerator?
Mother Jones shows Fox host has his own “Brian Williams problem.” Now we'll learn whether Fox cares about "truth"

TOPICS: BILL O'REILLY, FOX NEWS, BRIAN WILLIAMS, MOTHER JONES, DAVID CORN, DANIEL SCHULMAN, FALKLANDS WAR, CBS, BOB SCHIEFFER, EL SALVADOR, POLITICO, MEDIA NEWS, NEWS, POLITICS NEWS

Bill O’Reilly was predictably sanctimonious about the troubles of NBC’s Brian Williams – sanctimony shot with schadenfreude is the best kind of high for the Fox bully. So when Mother Jones charged O’Reilly with exaggerating his own war reporting record Thursday night, it didn’t take long for him to launch a counter-attack. He called story co-author David Corn a “despicable guttersnipe” and told Politico that Corn had been trying to take him down “for years.”

That in itself was a sign that the punch landed; normally O’Reilly doesn’t descend from his perch in the “no-spin zone” to debate mere mortals on platforms besides Fox. The Mother Jones story is embarrassing, but it’s probably not fatal. Most of the “reporting” on Fox has roughly the same relationship with the truth as O’Reilly’s claim to combat zone action. I can’t see him facing censure for this, but I hope I’m wrong.

If you missed the action, Corn and Daniel Schulman reported that despite O’Reilly’s claims of having “survived a combat operation” during the Falklands War, the Fox host, then with CBS, only got as close as Buenos Aires, roughly 1,400 miles away from the fighting. “Nobody from CBS got to the Falklands,” CBS’s Bob Schieffer told Mother Jones. “I came close. We’d been trying to get somebody down there. It was impossible.”

There was, of course, no combat in the Argentinian capital, but there was a raucous protest, and that’s apparently what O’Reilly refers to as a “combat operation.” He also claimed he was the only CBS reporter covering the demonstration, which Schieffer likewise denies. “We were all out with our camera crews that day to cover the protest,” Schieffer says. “I’d been out there with a crew too.”

Likewise, his claim of having seen combat danger in El Salvador is undermined by reporting – the reporting of Bill O’Reilly himself, on the ground, in real time. In his book “The No-Spin Zone” O’Reilly tells of visiting a dangerous, “guerrilla controlled area” with a camera crew, where “I quickly did a stand-up amid the rubble and we got the hell out of there.”

The Mainstream Media Sides With Fox News By Refusing To Investigate Bill O’Reilly’s War Lies

By: Sarah Jonesmore from Sarah Jones
Friday, February, 20th, 2015, 11:28 am

What does it take to cause Bill O’Reilly to call you a “far-left assassin,” “disgusting piece of garbage,” and a “guttersnipe liar”?

Quoting his own words back to him and asking for clarification. Followed up with more colorful language like, “(V)erify what I’m saying, because it’s easily verifiable, then I expect David Corn to be in the kill zone.”

When asked why the Fox News host did not respond to questions from Mother Jones’ Washington bureau chief and slayer of liars David Corn, O’Reilly blasted:

“Because David Corn is a guttersnipe liar,” O’Reilly told the Erik Wemple Blog tonight. “Is that clear enough? For years he’s been trying to get Fox News. I would never speak to the man about anything at any time. He’s a disgusting piece of garbage.”
This doesn’t answer the question. This points fingers at Corn – with no facts, by the way – and dodges the questions. The questions Corn asked were not unfair. They were based on quotes by O’Reilly himself.

Bill O'Reilly Has His Own Brian Williams Problem
The Fox News host has said he was in a "war zone" that apparently no American correspondent reached.
—By David Corn and Daniel Schulman | Thu Feb. 19, 2015 5:26 PM EST

After NBC News suspended anchor Brian Williams for erroneously claiming that he was nearly shot down in a helicopter while covering the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly went on a tear. On his television show, the top-rated cable news anchor declared that the American press isn't "half as responsible as the men who forged the nation." He bemoaned the supposed culture of deception within the liberal media, and he proclaimed that the Williams controversy should prompt questioning of other "distortions" by left-leaning outlets. Yet for years, O'Reilly has recounted dramatic stories about his own war reporting that don't withstand scrutiny—even claiming he acted heroically in a war zone that he apparently never set foot in.

O'Reilly has repeatedly told his audience that he was a war correspondent during the Falklands war and that he experienced combat during that 1982 conflict between the United Kingdom* and Argentina. He has often invoked this experience to emphasize that he understands war as only someone who has witnessed it could. As he once put it, "I've been there. That's really what separates me from most of these other bloviators. I bloviate, but I bloviate about stuff I've seen. They bloviate about stuff

Fox News and O'Reilly did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Here are instances when O'Reilly touted his time as a war correspondent during the Falklands conflict:

In his 2001 book, The No Spin Zone: Confrontations With the Powerful and Famous in America, O'Reilly stated, "You know that I am not easily shocked. I've reported on the ground in active war zones from El Salvador to the Falklands."
Conservative journalist Tucker Carlson, in a 2003 book, described how O'Reilly answered a question during a Washington panel discussion about media coverage of the Afghanistan war: "Rather than simply answer the question, O'Reilly began by trying to establish his own bona fides as a war correspondent. 'I've covered wars, okay? I've been there. The Falklands, Northern Ireland, the Middle East. I've almost been killed three times, okay.'"
In a 2004 column about US soldiers fighting in Iraq, O'Reilly noted, "Having survived a combat situation in Argentina during the Falklands war, I know that life-and-death decisions are made in a flash."
In 2008, he took a shot at journalist Bill Moyers, saying, "I missed Moyers in the war zones of [the] Falkland conflict in Argentina, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland. I looked for Bill, but I didn't see him."

Actually.. The story never had legs. Nobody takes Corn serious because he's a proven liar. Recall he made up the false story about Rove outing the non-undercover agent Plaime.

Look.. I know you really really need to have a conservative to point at and say 'they do it too'.

But it's not happening. At least not with this hit-piece.

I know it's hard.. You have all of this hate just boiling up inside you and you need to vomit it on someone.

Perhaps counseling would be helpful.

I'm only a luke warm O'Reilly fan, but this Mother Jones article is simply a progressive character assassination hit piece. Anybody with the reading skills of a 6th grader can read the O'Reilly quotes, in which he clearly says he was in Argentina!! They present nothing indicating he claimed to have been in the Falklands while covering the story.

The lies are only in the implication of Mother Jones, not in O'Reilly's statements.

This kind of stuff is sadly typical of progressive character assassination that gets used against every Republican candidate, the Koch brothers, etc. It's designed to inflame the ignorant, the lazy, the stupid, and the poorly educated, rather than to inform.

David Corn of Mother Jones published a scathing article exposing Bill O'Reilly's lies that he was involved in combat in the Falklands. In 2013, Bill O'Reilly stated:

I was in a situation one time, in a war zone in Argentina, in the Falklands, where my photographer got run down and then hit his head and was bleeding from the ear on the concrete. And the army was chasing us.

I BET HE PULLED OUT A GUN AND SHOT THEM INDIANS DEAD TOO.

Yet in his own memoir O'Reilly doesn't describe even being anywhere near
the Falkland Islands. After the Mother Jones piece was published, O'Reilly lashed out at David Corn by calling him a "despicable guttersnipe."

Journalists should be held to standards. Brian Williams was suspended from NBC News for 6 months for lying about being in combat. Why should it be any different for Bill O'Reilly?
