Just watched Mexico beat Germany (defending world champions) in the opening game for Group F of the World Cup. I was hoping for the upset but not betting on it, so for me this was a sweet victory, and what a game! Germany held possession most of the time, but it was Mexico that delivered and I think they totally outplayed them. Maybe we should let more Mexicans in the U.S. so we can get some decent players on the U.S. team for a change. ;)

Or we can stick to baseball, football (American rules), hockey, and basketball and send all our best soccer players to Mexico together with all the Mexicans here illegally.

Our best soccer players probably couldn't qualify to play in Mexico... Maybe we can send them to Korea, since they also suck at soccer.

You might be right about sticking to sports that most of the world doesn't give a sh*t about, like baseball and American football... it fits in with our current trend toward isolation and international irrelevance.

I'm going with: You made six statements. Four were wrong. Your batting .333. Good in baseball, bad in OPP.

I'm going with: you don't really have a come back so you make vague statements to setup a meaningless punchline.

The statements I made are either facts or opinions that can't be proven either way. I said most of the world doesn't give a sh*t about sports like baseball and American football... that's a fact. American football is not popular in ANY other country besides our own. It's a novelty in England, that's about it. Baseball (if you can call that a sport) fairs a little better, being played in a handful of Latin countries, Canada and Japan, but again, that's pretty limited and even then it's not a tremendously popular sport in ANY of those countries. Basketball fairs a little better still, especially in Europe, but it's about as popular over there as Rugby is over here. Hockey is probably the only sport you listed that has any real respect outside the U.S. But that get's back to my point... I don't know if you noticed but the best American hockey teams use a lot of immigrant players.

I guess what I'm saying is maybe we can stop obsessing so much about the bad things immigrants bring and recognize some of the good things they contribute. There is no doubt immigrants have played a staring role in promoting ice hockey in the U.S. from an obscure sport to the lucrative industry it is today.

They would probably like basketball if they had a snowball's chance in hell of beating us. You saw what happened when they let professional US ball players compete against what would be considered pro players here.
I personally don't watch baseball or football, because I never played them. Soccer either. I watch basketball because that's the sport I played.

You can't expect a nation to be good at a sport they have no interest in. That's why Mexico beats the U.S. in soccer pretty every time and that perpetuates our disinterest because like I said, we hate to lose. I played league soccer AND basketball, but I like watching most sports except baseball. I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear I'm a Warriors fan ;)

BTW... our basketball programs wouldn't be nearly as impressive without the black players... If all we had were white players like me and you, Mexico probably COULD beat us LOL... Just saying, diversity *DOES* make America great.

Thanks for making that clear... I'll put you on the list of racists that I'd like to kick out the U.S. We can replace you with a hard working Mexican and be a better country for it.

Like me now? Probably. In high school I could dunk. At the time, dunks were a technical, but if you are far enough ahead, who the f*ck cares? It was worth it until the coach got tired of us showboating.
For what it's worth, I also got an award in the Boy Scouts for doing a five mile swim. Damn that was tough. I probably side stroked and backstroked four miles of it.
Most Americans have no interest in soccer. Or Australian Rules Football, although I kind of like that one.

Do you plan on making arrangements to put part of the hard working Mexican's salary in an escrow account to reimburse the owner of the stolen SoSec number your Mexican is using, or were you just going to pay him under the table?
You know I have stated repeatedly that I have no problem with anyone, Latino or otherwise who is in this country legally.
I also cannot understand why the million or so Mexicans who are going about obtaining US citizenship the legal way are having such a tough time with bureaucratic bullshit while politicians bend over backwards to kiss a wetback's ass.
One group has shown a willingness to respect our laws and one has flaunted them. Seems like a no-brainer to me. If they won't respect our law now, what makes you think they would do so when given undeserved amnesty and citizenship?

If you watch any hockey game, NHL, Olympic, or world championship, you will notice that the players all stand respectfully for the national anthem whether it is theirs or not. Also the foreign players are here because they have both the talent and desire to play here. They don't just come here and expect to be given everything. They know they have to earn it.

That line of thinking snowflake shows me that you’ve never been around the “hardworking mexican” when they realize that the anchor baby is coming.
I ran crews of mexicans in New Mexico in the Industrial & Commercial landscaping business. As soon as the wife got pregnant it was the last time they showed up for work. It was like clockwork. The benefits were so good that they knew they could now work part time. So take your communist thinking and put it where the sun don’t shine.
Reply back when you wake up to reality but not sooner. I’ve heard all the snowflake whining to last a lifetime.

Five miles IS a long swim... I did that a few times during my training to be a life guard for Los Angeles County. I never got the job but I *did* qualify. When I got to college, swimming was pretty much all I did - of all the sports out there that's the one I excelled in. My son did even better and ranked 6th in California at the college level for 100 meter butterfly. My dad swam competitively too - runs in the family. At 6'4'' I'm not sure why my son never took an interest in basketball, but his armspan - a full 4" wider than mine, definitely gave him an edge in the pool

I like Aussie rules too... I like ALL the variations of football, from soccer to rugby, though I gotta say, American football is the only one that caters to commercials. I've watched USC games where that little guy with the flag prevents play resuming until the network can run their ads. Most Americans don't notice these things because they are so used to it. That's because America has always been "business-first" and our sports reflect that. Neither football nor baseball are continuous flowing sports... the athletes spend most of the game just standing around but the constant stoppage is great for commercial advertising and I think that's a big reason why those two sports used to be America's most popular... The networks like them and networks tend to influence American taste. Things have changed a little bit over the years... Baseball, which is 90% business and 10% sport is dying because it's really only popular with creaky old farts. Younger generations have brought basketball and hockey into the mainstream and the same thing is happening now with soccer and sports like lacrosse.

I agree with your statement that most Americans have no interest in soccer, but that's because most Americans have no interest in team sports. Out of those that do, soccer is increasing in popularity, probably more than you think but you have to tune into the younger generation to see that. The rickety old men still think baseball is #1 LOL.
